I have fished at my local commercial fishery three times lately and on every occasion it has been very hard going indeed, today I managed 6 small roach around half an ounce apiece a small ide around an ounce and a hybrid about 6oz.
Whats interesting and this has happened on all three of my last visits is the small roach all appeared to be “rigid” when swung to hand and just lay in the water when put back as if comatozed the seagulls took full advantage and swooped down and took the majority of the fish i caught.
I have fished for over forty years and cannot ever remember this happening before and i have fished in some pretty severe conditions over the years.
What is strange is the weather has not been cold in extreme at all although the fish did feel quite cold to the touch.
I used to always take the water temps before fishing in winter and found anything below 4c was usualy hard going, sadly i did not take the temps on these three trips[no thermometer in my kit} anyone else experienced this?.

ive seen some strange behaviour from fish in my pond, more so over winter.
2 years ago i had probebly 4-5 inches of ice on my pond, i did have a airstone going to keep a small corner ice free, however i was totally gutted to see one of my prize koi on its side on the bottom looking dead. it was far under the ice and i couldnt get my net through the small hole, so rather than smash the ice to get it out, and spook all the other fish, i thought id leave it a few days as we were due some warmer weather.
well 3 or 4 days later when the ice was thin enuff (and the fish still on its side in the same spot!) i broke a small hole (enuff to get my arm in) i reached down to grab the fish and as i touched it it swam away!! i shit myself i can tell you!
its still swimming around happy as i type!
          weird!

I had that happen with a big old ghostie which was in my moms pond years ago, just lay there under the ice as if dead, it happened two years on the trot but after the ice melting it was as fine as can be. As for the roach being comatozed, I`ve never seen that before or heard of it? Be interested to see if anyone knows the reason for this?
