TF_Time TravellerThe arguments still go on Tourney Pro vs Airity, well seems there is a new “Team in the Park” now with the Browning pairing.
But given that there are only a limited number of “Sponsored” Z12’s out there can anyone truely make a comparison yet?
We have obviously all seen the hype, and as we would expect the Rep is not going to knock his own bit of kit, however, some Z9 owners suprisingly have been knocking the Z12, saying it is heavier & has larger diameter sections etc etc….
Is this just sour grapes I ask, do those anglers feel agrieved as they only bought their Z9 last month ?
I think Browning probably were at a cross-roads with their kit 3 years ago, thought it through and delivered…. but have they got the marketting wrong, is the Z12 that much better, can the Z9 survive?
Me….well ordered my Z12, not sure what I will do with my B7500 (still one of the best silver fish poles), my 910, 910XL & my Club France… like me, ready to be retired one and all !!!
Never broke a section on any of the above on fish, and done a few near 20’s on them… what can you say !!!!!

AnonymousHeavier – is that any disadvantage ?
Bigger diameter sections – is that any disadvantage ?
Define better ?
When someone asks ‘what is the best pole ?’ it’s almost like asking how long is a piece of string. Different people want & need different things. What is deemed good by one angler may be unsuitable for,and slagged off by, another. Sometimes because their styles of fishing or technique are different and sometimes because one or other simply doesn’t know what he or she is talking about.
What matters is how any one item of tackle suits the individual. People seem to be constantly looking for the Holy Grail of poles (as well as rods, reels etc etc).

TF_lumpwhich sections are wider? thought they were all same top kits at least? if i was upgrading i’d want the tops and as much of everything else to fit as spares. anyway my Z9 doesn’t need upgrading as it does its job fine. coming up to 3 years now, not a mark on the joints and been out twice most weekend.

TF_Time TravellerAny increase in diameter was an opinion (by Z9 user) it was not apparent in the pole, I’ve handled both, as for weight +30grms !! not worth mentioning, although they (Rep) agreed sections had slightly thicker wall section
But the point remains is it an improvement on the Z9…time will tell,

TF_TennantdI have had a Z9 and now have a Z12. I have used it a few times and am very impressed. It has taken whats good about a Z9 and improved on it. The pole is at least as strong as a Z9 if not stronger. It may be a little heavier and maybe the diameter is wider by about 1mm but its not this that you notice. What you notice is that it is longer and stiffer than almost every other pole on the bank. I havn’t compared them all but i dont no any other pole that is bang on 16m. Because there is no need to cut the top kits back everything stays one length.

TF_sawyerThe Z12 is just the next generation of Browning Poles. There is nothing wrong at all with the Z9 its just pole evolution. I am suprised that people already have them, as i thoiught that the one in my office, was the only one in the country at the moment. But thinking about it, Browning must have had a delivery of them by now. Still a great pole with a superb spares package.

TF_Big FinnParticipantMark – They came in the week before christmas and was shipped straight away after QC did there bit.
As for the weight of the Z12 its 1390g the Z9 was 1330g so its 60g heavier nothing when holding it at 16m
The Daiwa Airity is 1390g at 16m so its the same as the new Z12 Evolution.
The walls are ever so slightly biggers but if you can tell by the eye then you must be superman.
The whole Z12 concept is different and as Mark says its just the next generation of Browning poles. The package is also uniqe as you can tell us what top kits you want instead of getting what we give you. The pole protector system enables you to use a butt section if you like from 7m upwards. All the top kits (SLKs) are all 2 piece and pre bushed with internal PTFEs and thats on all the variations on kits.
Its the stiffest, well balanced pole on the market today, Ive had that direct from very well known NW tackle shops.
Have a look at this for more info http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDmw8n7wrh4
Of course im going to promote the Z12 Evo as I work for Browning. 😉
As a match fisherman would I still think its an awesome pole if I didnt work for them………………………..to bleeding right its cracking 😀

TF_Fred Davisthe only problem I can see for the Z12 is it worth another extra £700 for a revamped Z9 ? As others have said it is pricey and up there with the most expensive of poles like the airity as an example. I can’t wait to have a look at a z12 is it worth the extra ? Only the individual can decide.

TF_squattBrowning are now selling some good gear. Poles, King Feeder rods, feeders and Black magic reels to mention a few items. The trouble is my local shops will not stock their goods because of their previous reputation. Come on Browning sort yourselves out and before the reps. jump in asking where my local shop is etc. start pushing your stuff!!!!!!!!! it’s good gear.

TF_crossyI am lucky and have a z12 having traded in my z9.
The z12 is heavier than the z9 as it longer!
The z9 is 16m with the traditional short number 1.
The z12 does not have this. The z12 number 1 does not need cutting back and is comparable with a normal number 2. I have the 4.5mm puller version and they will take a 15 purple.
So by losing the number 1 you need to get the length back lower down the pole, gaining half a metre lower down the pole will weigh more hence why the pole is heavier.
As you are using a pole with no cutting back it is longer.Z9 top three, four and fives all fit the z12.
The z12 has some strengthening points on some sections so that will add some effect on weight as well.

TF_Time TravellerThanks “Crossy” we have a direct comparison now, but no doubt we the debate will continue as the Z9errs seem very pleased with the kit
The “whole package” seems right, and providing they can support spares and additional buys, and don’t get any unplanned breakages, Browning are better placed than for a long time to push the brand.
As mentioned earlier I’ve no issues with any Browning kit, can’t wait until the 23rd when mine arrives…. their first test, will it arrive on time !!!

TF_paulDBrowning would be stupid to stop the Z9 as its still the best sub 2 grand pole on the market. I had a quick wigggle of a Z12 and its very good but decided to stick with my trusty Z9 throgh this summer and see if prices come down.
The best pole ive ever bought is a Z2 😀 would seriously recomend it to z9 owners as a summer bagging pole and backup as all sections will swap. I paid about 350 and a pole like this would have cost over a grand a few years ago. I hardly used my 9 last summer. -
