TF_stevemcTo my regret I sold all my fishing gear before we left the UK for Bahrain, (I’m an idiot I know) but now I ‘m thinking of buying some new tackle, the question is is there any difference between the blanks of say;
Daiwa Connoissure 11-13 feeder rod CN-XL1113PQ. and the new
Daiwa Connoissure 11-13 feeder rod CNGF1113P-AU.
I think this question goes for all manufacturers and there old and new similar rods. -

TF_squattI grew up in Bahrain, I was there from 79 till 87. Loved the place, no doubt it’s changed a bit since then. What was it like with all the trouble in the summer. Before you decide on the Daiwas what type of feeder work do you do.

TF_stevemcHi Squatt, It was sad when it kicked off the last time here in Bahrain and it’s a shame they have pulled down the pearl there is still trouble nearly every day somewhere on the Island and we are all just waiting to see what happens in February 🙁

TF_squattThat is strange as I’m from Taddy which isn’t far from Thirsk. If I were you I would be looking at the Shimano Beastmaster or Speedmaster rods. Superb actions and not super inflated Daiwa prices.

TF_shanieboyDon’t overlook the preston mini series – The 11ft mini carp feeder rod is quality, as long as your not launching heavy feeders to the horizon which we rarely do anyway on most commercials. Great price too…..

TF_spotter1707Hi there stevemc.
Please take a look at the Tri-cast range of rods. The splash waggler is (IMO) one of the best rods on the market. The ledger range is second to none & all are British made. Service from the manufacturer is also excellent!

TF_stevemcThanks everyone for your suggestions on different rods, when I get back to the uk in the summer I will check a few out, you know what it’s like, you need to feel the rod first 🙂 The thing is that’s not quite the point I was getting at, if you took the two blanks of the rods I have mentioned would there be any difference other than the finish?

TF_NathanWatsonMost of my rods are old, probably 15 years or more, Normarks and Daiwas and I prefer them to anything available today! Seems technology has gone backwards in my opinion! 🙁
Different story with poles though! :confused:

TF_hempseedI’m with you nathan, i used my old daiwa’s from 20 years ago and there is no way the rods of today are any better, there are only so far you can improve them, o unless you count putting dodgey reel fittings on 😮 😀

TF_lumpi reckon it’s just cheap (sub £50) rods that are getting better, i have a daiwa whisker spliced tip rod, must be over 20 years old. I don’t think i could find anything like it now. Even the expensive rods i think are only expensive because the manufacturers want us to think we’re getting something special.

TF_HillbillySame here Nathan. I have a pair of old Connie 11/13’s and recently purchased a new Tourny 12/13. Cannot tell any real improvement in performance in the new rod over the older ones other than the more secure reel fitting on the Tourny. My waggler rods are original Normark Microlite, Titan and Avengers and again reel fittings excluded they perform as well as the later versions with a bit of electricians tape fixing the reel fitting problem.

TF_One Out of the FrameThe original Normark Titans were an awesome rod. What an advance in a short period of time from rods that could take the head off a roach at 30yds if you struck a bit hard to something that was so slender, well balanced and with an unbelievably mellow middle to tip action.
I remember buying one frm Foster’s of Birmingham around 1986 as a student nurse. I walked out of the shop put it in the car and immediately went back and had another to go with it: Over a months wages blown on a couple of rods and I didn’t think twice about it!
The only thing that let it down was that it didn’t have the backbone to boss fish like chub under the rod tip. I sold my last one this Summer and even though I hadn’t used it for years, instantly regretted it!
