TF_mercury2622Guys.
Looking atgetting a 10m(ish) pole for pole to hand fishing. Does anyome know of any decent ones, or exactly what am I looking for in one?
I will be targetting roach skimmers in the 1-2lb region, but it needs to handle bream up to 6-7lb. The waters are very open and often very windy, and will need to cast out a float of up to 8gr.
Hope thats enough info for your verdicts.
Cheers.

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantIs it for Ireland ?I just used to use whatever carp pole I had at the time, grimreaper, reactorlite etc but the lads who used to do it regulary all seemed to use Browning Black magic there the best line to hand pole. What your looking for is a strong and idealy a slim pole, 3 years ago I tried fishing 8m to hand on the river with my then brand new yank and bank, the no 5 snapped it just snapped without warning it put me right off the pole the section seemed flimsy for a power pole.

TF_dunnoI was fishing 10m to hand on the river Suck a few years back with amaver h15. My mates on either side of me were using yank and banks, both broke the 9m sections fishing.
I use a maver h15 and a black magic. both first class, the maver h15 is alot cheaper to buy. 🙂

TF_bagging machineParticipantAs Mak says a secondhand original Tricast XRS is the tool. Very slim super strong and new spares still available.

TF_D.W.As already mentioned, the Browning Black Magic is a superb tool for this type of work. If you can find one, the Browning Spiral Titanium is a classic choice as it is slimmer than other similar poles due to the put in joints.
Another worth looking at is the Garbolino Power Maxim (original or updated version) as they are bulletproof, have the right action and double up as a fantastic margin/bagging pole on commercial waters.

TF_inky fingerThe pole should be softer (hense the broken sections) than most modern poles. Put in poles are the way to go ‘browning black magic’ etc as there very slim light and flexable. Tricasts original xrs are put overs but are spot on for long lining and are classic serious beasting poles.

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantYank and bank is not a stiff pole inky very floppy the look like a banana at 9m and very bouncy I thought it would be upto the job of swinging 2 oz roach on a 4 grm rig.

Trust me its not, and I witnessed the expensive result on either side of me one day. Forget it.
Poles ive seen used successfully long lining in Ireland…….(which is venue specific these days)
Maver Strategy X ……Strategy S
Maver H15
Shimano Perfection Competition and Solstace
Browning Sprial Titanium and Black Magic
Daiwa Pro CarbonAnything else can be an expensive MISTAKE.

TF_NoCarpPleaseoriginal Shimano TPGT …. Big Kev used to use that one ….
Shaky Superteam whip of about 3 years ago is man enough as well …. but only 8m
both strong – although not as flexible as would be ideal

TF_SliderI used to do a lot of this and always used a maver Grim Reaper, I was only 18 years old so could no afford a “proper” pole for the job but it was cheap and very strong. We had to fish 11m to hand on the river at Portumna one day. I can remember one day on the River Inny where I swung so many fish out on the pole I cut through the top of my watercraft seatbox using it and my groin as a lever to lift 9m of pole all day. The Grim reaper was so strong it just cut through the plastic !!
If you are serious about it then as mentioned the Black Magic or H15 is the pole to go for, strong, slim and responsive enough to put the rig out smoothly.
However, if money is no option then the Tournament Whip is ideal, more than capable of doing the job and much lighter in the hand than a Black Magic.
