Hi, can anyone advise how this pole performs at 16 m with a Match kit on? Is it fishable at 16 m with power kits?

Anyone with an honest opinion on this pole would be apreicaited, there is very little in the way of reviews I can find online.

        Cheers Matt

I’m an ex-owner and the 796 is perfectly fishable at 16m with the match and power tops. Personally I found it inferior to the Super Legion and sold it for another S/L before moving on to the G10, Used 796’s still seem to sell for good money but if I was looking for a quality Garbolino pole I’d wait for a used G10 which I’ve seen selling between £600 and a grand,

In fairness, it was £500 cheaper than the Superlegion!

It got very good reviews in the angling press when it was released (in around 2006 from memory). I’ve certainly seen a few on the bank and they are fishable at 16m. Like the Superlegion also, I’d imagine it’s better with the match kits than the power kits.

The newer match-lite and power-lite kits will fit it (they’ll be longer than the original power kits, the same length as the un-cut original match kits, but will need cutting back less) which I’d imagine would make the pole perform better, should you want to take that route.

Thanks, I dont know why there is not an indepenant review website for angling, every review I read makes every pole great, there must be not bad products out there!

I realise that it will not be as good as the super legion, but I cant afford a top end pole and looking to pick up a second hand pole that will allow me to compete. I am a youngish lad so can handle a less than perfect pole, but im pleased to hear that people do think it ok to fish at 16m, I am thinking with the short 4 & match kit it will improve performance?

I would love a super legion but finding one is proving difficult, but there are several G796 availiable at the moment, with plently of top kits.

The short 4 will definitely improve it’s performance! I only ever used the short 4 on my superlegion (when I had it), simply because the original 4th section was very long (near the same as the butt section), which I thought was too long. I think it’s the same with the G796

It’s a slightly newer pole than the superlegion anyway, which means that spares should be available for longer.

It’s a pretty decent pole, and at 14.5m you’d notice very little difference between that and a superlegion, if any at all.
