At this time of year what would be a good groundbait for fishing rivers targeting small silver fish? Mainly small roach and skimmers? The river would be around ten foot deep with very little flow.

        Thanks for any help.

I dont think you’ll go far wrong with sensas lake, roach and bulk it out with leam.

Big Roach, Lake, Magic, Matchblend or River. Include leam, salt and or Aromix. Think about binding, action, colour, partical size and target size/weight.

Squatt: Why salt? I thought that there was already salt in most g/b’s?

I’ve been using salt alot in the last three years, and not a teaspoons worth either.

Squat: I’ve only tended to use g/b while using b/j for the most part so I’m really intrigued by your findings.

If you could post or pm what you have been doing and why plus what the results have been I would be most grateful.

Salt and joker doesn’t appear to be a good combination in my experience.

Molehill soil is a great deepwater river addition for adding wieght and darkening off a groundbait. Free too.

Secrets of successful fishing pole rivers are the same as for trotting: to maintain a constant current feed to follow the correct line, ensuring the correct amount and consistency of ground-bait, and ensure that the float follows the stream, without jerking or drew the line.

Also interested why you are adding large quantities of salt to your mix, especially as most GB has salt in !

The salt content in groundbait kills joker eventually. To add more salt surely just speeds it up even more.

The lad that started the thread never mentioned Joker and I don’t often use it
