The carp are changing the shape of our fisheries, read the April issue of Pole fishing

It was the most apparent at Nigel Harrhy’s Match Pool where he had spent ages sculpting the pegs and the fish move in and create their own landscape. I plumbed up under a rope and the water was a foot deeper than when I had last plumbed it a year before!

I used to have half a dozen small carp in a large tank and would arrange the gravel and rocks into a picturesque, pleasing scene with hills and troughs and during the night you could hear the carp hoovering up and spitting out the gravel and every morning you would get up to a billiard table. 😡 lol

As these fish were less than 6-8oz you could just imagine the landscaping that a shoal of large carp could get up to.

As many fisheries are litterally holes in the ground I think wave action accounts for much of the undercuts I have seen. On many lakes if you clear out the margin swim you will be stunned to check out how far undercut some banks are. The best example I have found is on our club lake where one swim is undercut by 3 foot plus.
If you can get back to a bare bank with suitable depth many foul hooking problems dissapear.
Compounding the problem is bank side vegitation which will natually grow out into the lake as its a rich source of water for any plant to flourish.
