I read on MFS a little while a go that Browning are releasing a holdall made specially for the Z12 due to the long sections and people that have bought a Z12 will recieve one FOC, whether that’s true or not I don’t know for sure.

I would just leave the top of your MAP holdall unzipped at the top so the tubes stick out the top, cutting the holdall or your pole (lol) would not be a good idea imo.

didn’t it come in a holdall? or was it a bit naff like you got with the Z9?

Browning need to think seriously about this IMHO, its a top top pole but people still need to carry it around in cars, a mate of mine went to buy one and didnt bother because when he tried to put it in his car it poked through over the gear stick such is the extra length !!
He drives a 5 series estate so its not a small car

He stuck with his Z9 instead !

I have a similar problem with my Sensas 86xl. I have the pro luggage which is black and green, but the holdall is too short, yes, granted the pole came with its own holdall but its that garish luminous green one… Any ideas?

I cannot believe when spending top dollar it doesnt come with a decent holdall i would contact browning and complain this is supposed to be thier flagship pole i bet with all the other companies you would get one rant ova

I honestly beleive browning and sensas newly released poles are too long in section length and that lots of anglers will be put off of buying them because of their length, obviously they have changed the section length/configuration to make them stiffer, however has there been an upgade in materials used or has this extra stiffness been created with very little upgrade in materials Ok there has been some development costs but nearly £800 more than their previous models, one angler/team mate went to colemans to buy a z12 and walked away with a z9 the upgrade just wasn’t worth the extra and with the hassle of really long sections i think these poles are a bridge too far imo I have a feeling sales will not match up to their previous models. they claim these poles are an allround tool that will cope with rivers canals and commy’s yet on canals what you don’t want is too much pole sticking behind you with bikes flying past on a narrow path, manufacturers need to put more thought into the products they are producing otherwise the’l nosedive

Fred – out of interest how long is the Z12 when packed away.

I have enough of a problem with my G10 which only just fits into the Garbolino supplied holdall and it sticks out of all of the other rod bags that I own.

In the car it comes level with the back of my head. Any longer and it would be a real pain to transport.

When i got my Z12 i was suppriced to see that it came with a “preston hardcase” like holdal. Not the same quality as prestons but still very much usable. Now i use that one only.

Sure its long, 195cm i think. but still a greate pole. Had it up side by side with my mates Z9 and its not that much diffrens. The Z12 is just a bit stiffer but the Z9 looked to be a little bit stiffer in the first 1m of the tip.

I actually havern’t measured them up but have been told at least 6ft however in the tubes they probably go a bit longer to transport too long for almost every rod/ pole holdall out there! when we went from 10 to 9 section poles a lot of lads struggled on the canals because of the extra length however short fours ect did get round the problem of having too much pole sticking behind you, also for a lot of anglers with smaller cars the problem arrises now with anglers driving with the rod holdall impeding the handbrake or gear stick which could be hazardous to driving, luckily I don’t have a problem as I have an estate, but many a time I have set next to an angler who has had to lift the rod bags to put the hand brake on, longer sections to increase stiffness is not the answer especially as the angling trust limit on poles is now 16 metres, however it would be interesting to hear from browning or sensas on why they think this is the way to go!!!!!!!!

just seen the above post 195 cm is just around 6ft 5inches put in a tube 6ft 7inches rod holdall 6ft 9inches the pole may be great but most z9 anglers I have chatted to won’t be upgrading. With very little difference in performance and the distinct disadvantage of longer sections to transport why bother ?

Just out of interest I’ve just measured my brand spanking new Daiwa Whisker and its 176cm and I think that looks long, the holdall is massive.

So what’s the score with this pole then? A few weeks ago after its launch the hype flooded the net with people saying it’s raised the bar and blown all other poles out of the water, etc etc
Now alot of people are saying there’s nothing in it comparing to the Z9, some say slightly heavier plus you can’t get it in your motor??!!

the reason of 2m butt lengths is apparently increased stiffness/rigidity being possible by longer lengths =
this was relayed to me by Steve Hopkinson of Tri-cast who stated that they thought about the pro’s and cons of this route several years ago and decided against at that time.
                                      – obviously the reduction in joint overlap weight must help as well.
Don’t see Z12advertised for re-sale yet so would think new owners happy?
The new Maver carp elite also has longer butt sections apparently – so presume this now accepted way of increasing rigidity.
Angling poles in cars diagonally across the passenger space may be only answer.
As given choice between better performance and transportability – would think most will eventually choose performance – and 2 m sections have the consumer sales advantage of new ranges of longer holdall to boot.

This site often is frequented by the German/Browning bloke presumably involved in design/production so perhaps he will clarify.

lot’s of anglers travel in pairs especially with the cost of diesal spiralling out of control, lots of front passenger seats don’t fold down adequately, transporting the increased length in most family cars is dangerous imo! it has already been said that the increase in performance between the new sensas poles and previous models & brownings z 9 and z12 is very little in terms of pole performance, as for this being the way forward, I beleive anglers will determine that fact not the maufacturers, I think the sales figures will reflect whether poles of 6 1/2 feet + in length are worth having, poor sales figures and they’l be back on the scrapheap, just like the hexagonal poles bought out by a few manufacturers years ago shakespeare hexa I think was one! made to increase the poles stiffness !!!! tricast looked at extra length sections and made the right decision imo

I have a Z12 that came with its own hardcase holdall with Z12 printed on it. I cannot understand why yours didn’t, what is the i.d. number? It is a hardcase type holdall and takes the pole with ext to 16metres, all of the top kits along with the 3 pole protection 1/2 sections with skid bungs, a landing net handle and a couple of short bank sticks for nets then in the outside pocket I can fit a Penrose PUPS or an umbrella but not both. It also fits into my Mondeo Estate but is quite a bit longer than many other poles when being transported. It does go between the front seats but doesn’t interfere with the gear stick at all.

It is a brilliant pole though and a mate of mine fits his into a much smaller car than mine. He does travel on his own though

apart from a mondeo or volvo estates which have acres of room the next option for this pole is a transit! you could chance it in a smaller car admittedly but who wants a smashed front windsceen! just don’t break too hard ! as I said a few mates who currently have a z9 will not be upgrading in fact Bill one of the postal; lads went down to colemans to buy a z12 as money was no problem and came out with the z9 which is going to be continued for 2012
                                            hopefully 2013 14 &15

Without doubt some lads will purchase the new sensas maver and browning longer section poles however I think its a shame that pole sections have to get longer it was bad enough when we went from 10 sections to 9 sections in the quest for extra stiffness. In fact I think this was because manufacturers could make a stiffer pole using cheaper carbon cloth charge the same moneyand therefore make a bigger profit,The diawa tournament s was a cracking 10 section pole shorter sections and yet just as stiff as some of todays top 9 section poles, then we went to 9 section poles in the quest for extra stiffness as manufacturers claim top japenese carbon was too expensive? now we are going to longer sections how long before we have poles with 7ft maybe 8ft long sections just so they can use cheaper carbon for not much more stiffness and a bigger rake off this is not progress imo it’s conning the match/club match anglers
