        Hi,

i would just like to say how disappointed i was with the whole event this year. i know darren cox and alex bones were away with england feeder team but the previous years we have always been given a hat and a garbolino catologue at the draw but we got nothing this year. and always had stars walking round like grant albutt last year. this year i never saw any pics being taken at all.

The qualification was not fair in any way what so ever. Top 15 weights over 7 lakes is not fair at all. Myself drawing on jennys had a slim chance of qualifying over someone who had drawn on extension. Last year it was 2 per lake which was very fair and nobody moaned and everybody had a chance to qualify for the final, where as this year both the people next to me were moaning about the qualification process.

also the pegging on the day was shocking how you peg every peg in on jennys but do peg 2 miss 1 on extension is crazy.

i just got the feeling that with Dave Harrell leaving match fishing the guys on the day just did it cause they had to not cause they wanted to do it.

not a good day out for me im afraid.

Ive fished the last 5 gcaoys but missed this year due to injury 😡

What i dont understand is how Experienced anglers at Matchfishing and Garbolino can`t organise a simple match.Whats wrong with anglers qualifying via a section win

Top 15 is absolutely ridiculous..Some people drove a long way friday only for there day to be spoiled by a silly decision.

It’s a shame to see anglers knocking the event, running matches is a thankless task and at the end of the day the drawbag can dictate events as well as good angling, but there will always be anglers who are drawn out of it on the day, I dare say the 15 qualifiers arn’t moaning, yes it may have not been as good as last year, free hats and garbo catalogue aside! the venue was obviously pegged all wrong in your veiw but at least the event was being run, the good old saying of you pays your money and you takes your chance springs to mind, negative comments kill events like this, lets hope garbolino continue to support the ordinary club anglers with this event as despite it’s pitfalls it is still run by garbolino thankfully and some lucky finalists will pick up a shedful of gear at barston!

last year it wasnt organised perfectly so why this year was it disorganised is it because dave harrell has left?

what i cant understand is the first year i fished this competition it was top 15 weights qualify i was lucky that year and qualified but everybody around me was moaning like mad. then last year it was 2 from every lake qualify and everybody was happy everybody had something to fish for then this year they change it back and get everybody moaning again?
why not just leave it like last year?

As for pegging it may be a thankless task but with the likes of pete rice there who is there probably 5 times a week im sure he knows that every peg on jennys pool is far worse than every peg on extension being in. .

the bloke next to me travelled 2 hours to get there then to say on the day that it was top 15 weights go through was a joke why didnt they put that in the magazine to start with then people would of at least known the qualification process and then they take the risk of drawing a good peg but to do it in the morning of the draw was terrible.

im sorry but it was a shambles this year.

i qualified ,but must admit that it was never going to be fair,we could have had a situation where all 15 came off the same lake!! also how can someone win there lake and not get through?? it was much farer last year

They should get some good gear especially as they upped the entrance fee!

Sorry fred i don`t agree ive been fishing long enough to know that the draw dictates alot of outcomes but i think top 15 over 7 or more lakes is absolutely ridiculous,i remember the same thing happening at moorlands a few years back in the same competition..Lots of people qualifying from same lake.

I finished 12th at lindholme a few years ago only to be told its top 2 in each section rather than top 15,i was 3rd in section with 76lb another fine mess 🙁 …Why did they do top 2 on each lake at lindholme that day? Easy because its a fair way to do it!

It needs sorting into sections not top 15 and once its been altered LEAVE IT ALONE so everyone knows the exact rules.

I fished the club angler at tunnel on friday and was dissapointed that the format had changed to the top 15 qualify. I travelled from north wales a 235 miles round trip and 50 quid in diesel expecting it to be the top two off each lake like last year.but i tried my best without success. As for the pegging i think the tunnel barn staff did the best they could have done with 158 anglers fishing the match. i was also on jennys pool stuck in a corner with not much to go at. The lad who won the lake with 50lb in my opinion should have qualified as his performance on a hard fished lake was exceptional.
I think the Garbolino/Match fishing team should stick to the same format for all qualifiers each year. In my opinion the top two anglers from each lake should qualify or 3 if larger lakes with more anglers on.
The payouts were very good and 40 quid for every 5 pegs was also very good.
The tunnel barn staff did a great job with the draw and weigh in and the breakfast was probably one of the best ive had from a comercial fishery.
Overall a bit dissapointed with the format but otherwise i had a great day out.
                      Well done to all involved

I was another pegged on Jenny’s…….the pegging was poor but in some ways thats due to not setting a limit on entrants.

Having travelled 250miles to be told the rules had changed back again from 2011 was poor, the pegging was poor and surprise, surprise the fishing was poor on our lake. I agree the guy who caught 50lb and won Jenny’s fished a blinder from his 6m wide plot!

If I am lucky enough to qualify for my club next year I’ll give it a miss, the rules change too often and I bet the other qualifiers in the South and North are not the top 15 on the complex, it’ll be top per lake…….they haven’t been in 2010 or 2011 it just seems to be at Tunnel?

I’m gonna save my diesel, bait, food, pools and have a dabble at a Fisho or Maver Match This were they at least stop taking entrants once the pegging is full!!

I do hear what you lads are saying about the pegging and hopefully the organisers will listen, did anyone ask why the format had changed from last year? However if they changed the format at gold I must admit I would still fish the qualifier as the luck of the draw will always play a part, no fisheries can produce 50 -70 fair pegs where every peg is in with a chance there will always be a sprinkling of flyers and no hopers and average pegs, lots of fisheries are affected by which way the wind blows, the garbo is one of the very few big comp’s we have open to club anglers, the buzz is what makes the comp for me a day out seeing old and new faces and giving it a go despite the peg, no angler can qualify from a very bad peg or a lake that can’t produce as much as other lakes, thats the luck of the drawer unfortunately!
lets hope your comments are taken into account for next year, as most have been constructive.
however the garbo is one of the very few comps for us clubbies to which Garbolino should be given credit

i went down and had a fantastic day out,,
its all about the luck of the draw at the end of the day,,
i know a couple of lads who qualified,, chris bacon,, and mark wragg ! both sheffield lads,
was told the last place you wanted to be was on club pool, yet jason elwell won it out right from there and a local lad i know did quite well on there aswell but unluckily due to changes didnt qualify.
i didnt know how it was run in previous years but word on the bank was id easily qualified,
i tipped 53-13 on the scales from peg 7 on house to record a section win and i think i also got 2nd on the lake aswell ! but unluckily missed out
but if it had been run like in previous years i would have got through on 2 counts
2 lads i went down with also won there sections so we would have all been traveling home knowing we had qualified but unfortunatley things where changed
i aint too bitter about it though because i think i would have been gutted to watch anglers with a lower weight than me reaching the final !
as it turned out i narrowly missed out on qualifying on weight aswell as only 58lb was needed to qualify, id lost a good few fish as did everyone but the heart breaker was watching a near double figure common wallow off just out of reach of the net after seeing the hook pull free, would have took me over 60lb and a trip to lindholme woulda been on the cards  🙁
i suppose theres an argument for both set ups and must admit that so many qualifying from each lake is the fairest set up, !
still a fantastic day out in my opinion and with reguards to getting pictures taken,, i had loads, 😮 😀 😀
had scott geenes, jason lebosquet, pat macinnis, tom scholey and joe carrass sat on the bank behind me, asking me about my dummy for about 20 minutes but it seemed like an eternity, all i kept thinking was,, “dont hook my keepnet,, dont hook my keepnet” 🙂
hopefully, ill qualify to fish next years event,
dunno if he uses this site but a big thanks to marko hardman of mossella blank country who kindly came along to put me right on my peg before the match,, top man marko !!!!
pat macinnis sent me a sneek preview of wanna the dummy shots aswell 😀 😀 😀

Wanna me mates gave me the dummy cos he says im always moaning about crap draws !!!  😀

big well done to jason elwell, on the win and congratulations to anyone else who qualified,, good luck in the final fella’s !!! 😉
