Many good rods about, accuracy is pretty much dependant on the angler, Garbolino tip rods for me

I have daiwa, garbo and shimano rods, all of which will cast that range but its the angler that provides the accuracy.

I find rods with carbon tips cast more accurately than glass tip rods, but again if you can’t cast straight to start with it doesn’t matter which rod you use

I find casting a method feeder or any feeder for that matter is made much more accurate with a fast actioned rod, which some of the long range 13ft distance type rods have. most of the new type have 8-9-10-11ft tip rods are very through actioned and not really the greatest casting tools. Had a look at the matrix rods, they seem quite tip as well as the garbolino gmax rods, seems like they have the right balance between casting action and fish playing, only played with briefly on the bank. Mosella are bringing out a 10 and 11 foot rod soon designed specifically for this job, and they really are spot on for this, i’ve been using one for 12 months.

Agree Pelletmad9. Manfacturers seem to moving away from parabolic actioned rods to rods with a semi parabolic action which are more suitable for accurate casting and marketed as such

Yep, agree with last 2! Daiwa Tournament 10ft with fast taper tip, cut back to next eye, for me! Struggle to cast accurately with bendy tips!

I agree with your “Beastmaster” comments I got the BX model after reading so many reports they were the dogs danglies and superb for big fish…..

Well lets just say it was not suited to me and how I fish LOL 😮

I had previously been using the older Abu Suveran 11/13 which has a thicker blank lower down to the later models with a softish action. I pretty much exclusively used it at 11 feet and dare i say it was reasonably accurate with it. 😉

However the Beastmaster at 11 feet there seemed to be that much flex i struggled to do what i was used to and swiftly sold it on. I agree it did have a great fish playing action but that was no good to me if you cant put it tightly to a feature which is what i wanted it for. 😉

I now have the Tourny 10/11 and first impressions are it seems a better compromise with plenty of give but some grunt lower down the blank. Especially at 10 feet length its very very good and I cant see me changing this in a hurry 🙂

The older Abu Suveran 11/13 if one comes up on the “classifieds” are still a good bit of kit at the shorter 11 foot length (need the hex weave on blank above reel seat, not the solid dark coloured blank there a bit soft all through)

Bram – talk to MMA about this – he uses his Beastmasters at 9′ and reckons he is accurate enough. Personnally I think they are too soft.
The Shakey Mach 3 may be worth a look or the new MAP parabolix @10′. Tourneys fetch over £150 2nd hand.

Another option may be my reactorlite 10’6″ which I may sell if I decide to have a full clear out on tip rods, including the carbotecs. I’ll let u know!

Surprised at the negative comments about the Beastmaster 9-11s, I use them at 11 and find them great for the job. If a chuck goes wrong, I blame myself!

I for one wasnt saying the Beastmaster was cr*p i just personally couldnt get used to it in how i fish/cast (more of a variance from other rods etc)

It was definitely better for me at 9 foot than 11 foot, in fact I used it at that length more.

I also agree the tourny is expensive and if you cant cast regardless of what you got in your hands you wont be accurate. I just find less flex in shaft a tad easier for me.

I am also no expert but one story I can tell you is Roy Marlow who has had involvement with develoment and prototyping of some good rods via Daiwa and Abu etc

He drew near an angler on Glebe 1 approx 10 years ago (lets just say a very very accomplished open angler) and watched him casting tight over 38-40 odd mtrs across and commented that he was “accurate” for a rod that was not right??

The angler had adpated his technique to compensate, Roy gave him a prototype of a rod and the angler himself said “it was far easier to cast with this other rod”

So suffice to say even a good angler can benefit from good kit/equipment.

Im the opposite to most on here.had a tournie pro 10/11. Not a bad rod but nowhere near as good as a humble beastmaster ax9/11.in my view these are the best rods goin.distance is limited at 9ft with a method feeder but most rods are at that length.the accuracy thing is all about technique i suppose as is casting distance. i cast this rod as badly as any other and been soft help in my opinion. but everyone is different. wot i will say is i used to lose lots of fish with hookpulls with the tourney and i dont now with the beasties.
