TF_Johnny Big BallsEvening chaps. Got a match coming up on the bridge pool on Heronbrook, wondered if anyone had fished it recently and had any info on the place? I’m thinking right across with pellet and meat to begin with, then fish the track for the middle of the match and finish off the last couple of hours fishing just my top 3 with plenty of caster put in. (Should it go to plan of course!!)
Any info on baits, methods, pegs, stamp of fish etc would be greatly appreciated as Ive never fished it before. Cheers.

TF_iansi01354I’m fishing it Sat so will give you a heads up after that.
Heard 94lb won last week fishing base of the far shelf for barbel with 70lb backing but sections only 30’s but had a lot on it.
Normally I start over as you say but then go down the shelves rather than the track but still ideally end up inside but does depend where you are pegged I guest to.

TF_Johnny Big BallsNice one, I’ll look forward to hearing how you get on on Saturday. And good luck!
What are the target fish in there amd what stamp? I’ve heard theres a lot of Barbel in there, but previous experience tells me they wont be in every peg.

TF_iansi01354I’ve not fished Bridge a lot but it seems to be predominantly F1’s but of a decent stamp 1-3lb with some decent mirrors c4-6lb but they seem hit and miss.
As you say the barbel hole up in certain areas but do run big, Saw some 7-9lbers coming out earlier this year, takes forever on F1 gear to get them out!!
Some pegs seemed to be full of stockie type F1’s under 1lb back in Feb / March but they may have spread out now,
I reckon its the most difficult lake to sort on Heronbrook, they really take some fishing for, it can be hard (for a commie) so despite the stamp of fish you need to be in F1 mode not carp / barbel mode…….but then summer may be differant!!!!

TF_Johnny Big BallsCheers mate, thats really helpful. Its only a club match, none of us are superstars and there could potentially be 25 lads on it, so I think 30-40lb would be a terrific weight, specially with all the rain we’ve had this week. I think I’d go home very happy with just a 9lb barbel in my net, thats some fish!
One last question, I have been looking at the match results on their site, and although there’s 46 pegs on there, they never seem to put in pegs past about 37. Is there a reason for this do you know? If there’s 25 lads on, obviously we want to spread everyone out the best we can, but dont want to put duff pegs in if we can help it?

TF_Johnny Big BallsAh that makes more sense, cheers! I’ll ignore the map on their website then! I’m guessing that at least now means there’s more space between pegs?
I think we’ve got the whole lake, which isnt gonna give us enough room to go every other peg, but it should at least give us a bit of water to fish to.
Thanks for everyones advice so far, much appreciated

TF_Johnny Big BallsWell thanks for the help chaps. I drew peg 9 which after speaking to a regular and seeing the open match results, I quite fancied. Barely any of the 26 lads on the lake had fished it before and bearing in mind it was just a club match, I thought to myself that 50lb would be right up there today. Caught most of my fish at 13 metres fishing ten inches deep on pellet or three dead maggots and with the last hour to go thought I must have had 40lb. I made a mess of the last hour close in missing bite after bite on meat, corn or pellet with bites you’d swear you couldnt miss (probably liners) and only added one small F1 when I probably should have sat it out right across. Still, I thought it wouldnt be a bad weigh and I’d probably have took it at the start.
But, in the end, I won my section with 45lb but ended up a disappointing 9th overall. My Dad won it with 84lb on peg 1, there were a couple of 60lb+ weights and a few 50’s too. I had plenty of fish but just didnt see any better fish. Only had one barbel about 2lb and my F1’s were all 1-2lb fish with no better carp.
Still, in the club knock out cup semi final, I managed to beat my opponent and good mate Nigel by just ten ounces and scrambled my way into the final on Highfield fishery in a fortnight. A cracking club match overall though with 15 of the 26 lads catching more than 30lb each. The match results bettering a lot of the open results of late. A few beers on the way home and a coach trip home just about topped off a brilliant day, even if I didnt frame.
