Round 2 for Roberts but Rodger’s still on Top

An impressive display on the pellet and waggler gained Herefordshire rod Dave Roberts the overall victory in round 2 of the 2012 Preston Innovations backed UK Champs at Viaduct with an impressive 174lbs of carp in the face of stiff competition. Pegged in the middle of Campbell Lake, changeable weather meant that that fish were up one minute and down the next but Roberts stuck to his guns and kept them coming to the pellet through the course of the 5 hour match to net the no 1 slot and a cool £1000 cash.

It was a story that was repeated all around the productive complex on the day, with bright sunny conditions one minute and cloud / showers the next. However it was the pellet waggler fished mid water that produced the biggest numbers of the target larger carp and some great head to head battles were observed.

An incredible late charge from Garbolinos Simon Fry saw him net 60lbs of carp down the edge in the last 30 mins of the match to rocket him up into third overall with 163lbs 09oz and win his section yet again. However, all eyes were on the Championship leader Marc Rodger who fished a blinder on his first ever visit to Viaduct. Pegged in the corner on Campbell (119) he too fished pellet shallow but bagged a mixed grill of tench skimmers and carp to net second overall with a total of 165lbs and secure his second podium and section win of the series.

Rodger remains at the top of the championship table but only by the narrowest of margins as both he and Simon Fry have recorded two perfect scores. Close at heel are Joe Carass and Lee Kerry on 3 points and the tour now heads to Larford for what will be a decisive round 3 on the 29th August.
