The second day of this 5 day match brought strong winds across all counties reducing the catch on the exposed swims, however a good day’s fishing was had by all.

A great catch by two English Anglers has moved them into the lead at the end of day 2. Derek Willan had a 21.360kg catch at Crom Estate and his partner Mark Pollard 21.350kg at Cornagrade, Enniskillen, both fishing Lough Erne in County Fermanagh.
A great welcome back to Mark Pollard who last fished in Ireland 30 years ago.

Why does this always happen, someone goes to the trouble of posting results at the start of the week and then no updates for the rest of the event.

Anybody seen any results for day 3. Probably too early for today’s results?.

No-one seems to know them, including Derek and Mark who think they are winning but can’t get it confirmed. Paul Bourke from the Irish Central Fisheries board is there, but can’t get any results confirmed. He did tell me Cathal Hughes won yesterday with 24kg (there’s a picture on a separate post) but he has no idea of the full results and they are not on the World Pairs Angling Champs site since Tuesday. Poor really.

                Thursday 13th September.
A successful days fishing in Cavan for Pair Phil Jackson and Cathal Hughes brings them into the lead for the last day of the match. Today they are fishing in Fermanagh, Cathal at the Crom Estate which has been providing great weights throughout the match, and Phil is at Derrychara in Enniskillen town. They say it’s all about the draw and at The Lakelands Forum this morning both Phil and Cathal drew ‘end pegs’ for their section renowned for providing the best catches.

English Pair Derek Willan & Mark Pollard are still a close second with Francis McGoldrick & Dave Brettal who are now in third place.

Good luck to all those fishing today – anything could happen. The top pairs will receive £30,000 and DAIWA tackle but there are payouts to £1000 for the 18th pair at a prize presentation evening at the Cavan Crystal Hotel from 8pm this evening.
