  please could anybody help me as to getting started making my own pole floats (for personal use only) or if anybody is willing to let me watch and see how its done would be great please inbox me with some info any help would be great

  Loook on Ebay theres loads of pole float making materials stems, eyes and even pre drilled balsa bodies its like painting by numbers.

  Finesse floats also do all the necessary equipment and posteage is very reasonable

  Finesse floats are good either direct through the website or on ebay the ebay I’d is skp1958.2009

  sorry to hijack this thread but i am also gonna make my own pole floats ,can anyone tell me if i buy a 0.3 body say for across ,after the eyes and stem and paint will this take it down to say 0.2 or less ?also what is the best kind of undercoat and paint/spay to use.

  Use an acrylic car spray paint as it is thicker than normal and no smell.
  Make your float up with the stem only and put your stem into a drill and as the drill’s turning spray the body and when the floats dry attach your tip.
  Don’t forget to prep the body first with at least 2 coats of sanding sealer and when dry give it a little rub down with some fine emery cloth, if you don’t you won’t get a smooth finish.
