Has anyone bought this item supplied with a 90cms spike. If so when you put it directly above you will probably find the rim of the brolly below your eye level ! no use if your fishing with a pole and float. I contacted Matrix who say it has been modified and suppiled a spike 105cms. I have yet to try this but suspect if the spike is pushed in the ground that too will be too short. Check the length if you decide to buy one. Please say if anyone else has had any problems and tell me what you think about it. How could the designers have tested the product with the 90 cms spike ?

It does seem a little short. Buy yourself one of the solid steel ones. If the product is not ‘fit for purpose’ and not being able to see out should qualify it then you are entitled to a full refund.

Thanks guys who replied and watchers. I am surprised a brolly is produced and designed but you can’t see beyond the rim. I doubt Matrix will contact all their retailers to replace 90cms spikes so there will more dissatisfied customers. I did buy a 120 cms bank stick which is the length I believe is necessary. With a RRP of £79.99 this is an expensive brolly, if Matrix are unable to design this properly I wonder how good some of the other designs are ? For me it is the last time I shall buy any tackle from them, it is unlikely this item was tested in a fishing situation.

I found the exact same problem when I first got mine – It ends up feeling like you’re underneath a very expensive kids wig-wam. It’s sat in the shed – a load of bloody rubbish and the first & last item of Matrix-branded gear I’ll ever have.

I bought a double rollover and on one side the foam kept sticking so my tackle shop exchanged it for another one which has a bobble in one piece of foam and you can feel the pole jump as you ship back. Would expect it from a cheap roller but not for £80

I had the same problem, luckyly i had a longer spike which solved the problem.Very disapointed,it apears that Matrix only invisaged the brolly being used in its flatback mode.Very short sighted.Spoils an therwise good product.

I see the same problem with all the brolly spikes I have ever had – They are all too short and they all bend in the wind – So I don’t think the problem is unique to Matrix, all maunufacturers are the same, cutting costs at the expence of their own products – So my question is “where do you buy a long solid brolly spike” or if anyone knows of a brolly with suitable length and strength brolly spike i.e. 120cm or 4 ft in old measure?

Matchcarp, Kerrs have some solid brolly spikes in stock ( stainless steel ) I don’t think their 4ft long, but they do look a decent bit of kit.

Don’t shop at Kerrs but I’ll look at Gardners thanks – All agreed then there is no brolly out there with a decent spike, one if not the most important part of the piece of kit 😡
They can be light they can be this but at the end of the day when you want to deploy it then it should stay ABOVE your head and keep you dry

I’ve had problems with the method feeders (tail rubbers splitting) and the moulds (again splitting). Contacted Matrix but no response from them 🙁 although they had received the email and read it!! Put me off buying anything more expensive from them.

Well I bought the seat box frame, and the foot plate is very hard to pull out, I have had to doctor it a bit, so that’s one disappointment , umbrella number two, so thats it, I will for one not be buying anymore tackle with the brand name Matrix stamped on it

                                            List and comments as follows.
Space brolly you have to almost climb inside to erect it but once up it is very spacious and repels rain efficiently. hopeless to fish under as it doesn’t go high enough to allow you to see the swim.
I know you can buy a longer pole etc but why should you for one of the most expensive brolly’s.

Carryall different class well made and thought out, holds its shape well..good product.

Flat roller Legs cease up and wont fold, upstanding ends corrode, nice bag though.

Matrix have no customer response to any problem and have lost another customer!

checked a matrix pole roller on display at another tackle shop and it has the same faults mine has, sticky roller on on side and bobble on the other By the sounds of some comments on this thread i would be wasting my time sending a snotty email. Am just glad i never bought the smaller roller aswell think ill buy two bank sticks and screw in v rollers to replace that piece of S…T that cost me £80. First and last matrix gear i buy

If you like V rollers, have a look at the MAP flat ‘V’ roller. It has the benefits of a ‘v’ roler and a flat bed roller. I have 2 and they are great. They go to a reasonable height and are far more stable than the ‘v’ rollers I have had.

I’ve nothing but praise for Matrix and I haven’t even got any of their kit.
Last Friday, when I discovered that the seat cover on my Fox MSB box had split, I rang Leigh Tackle, where I got the box from. Today Leigh called me to say that a replacemant would be delivered tomorrow.
Exceptional customer service from Matrix and Leigh Tackle.

How many people put the spikes in the floor these days?? the days of chasing your brolly across the field have long gone…brolly arms cured that problem years ago.

Rjays. I am sitting on a space station compact very low with footplate removed, and a brolly arm. The brolly only has 86cm spike; and with the umbrella within an inch (not ideal ) of the top and just catching the locking screw you can just see out to fish.

The brolly is hmmm next to useless, was sitting opposite a guy the other weekend, in the end he put it away as simply couldnt fish under it, so these comments come as no surprise, id take them back to the shop, not fit for purpose springs to mind….
