I went for a walk arund Barston today .. Tony Pallet and Nigel have done a superb amount of work on the venue clearing pegs ect…. The pegging wil look something like this to give everyone as much room as possible in the harder sections and the more prolific sections have been fattened up to create a more consistant match!!

The Barston Masters 2013 sponsored by Greys and Bagem Matchbaits kicked of over the weekend. Mick wilkinson floats was the Qualifying sponsor who kindly donated a range of his floats. The day started with Icey cold conditions with a third of the lake being frozen. Some anglers had to break ice but with it only being cat Ice they were soon on there way!!

The 65 anglers who took part new it was not going to be an easy day , Andy Sutton was the man inform today sat on peg 10. Andy started off on the method feeder , but it soon become apparent that this was not the method of the day and he opted for the pole. It took andy 3hrs to get his first bite , but being confident he worked hard changing his rigs and feed rates and soon started to put together a net of Skimmers and F1’s on the chop worm and caster. Andy finished the match with a match winning weight of 36lb and put himself through to the final of The Barston Masters in August !!

In second place and from peg 90 Mick Illingworth put together a net of F1’s taken on the method feeder at range. Mick caught steady through out the match for a total weight of 27lb.

In 3rd spot This went to Mick Risby , Mick who come 3rd over all in the final of the Barston Masters in 2011 , managed to put 25lb on the scales caught on the method feeder and the pole.
All section winners of the first round go through to the Barston masters final in August.

The reserve list has changed and moved up big time today …… If you can not fish please let me know ASAP!!!

Round two of the Barston masters was backed by DJK floats , and Kev Leach feeders!… Each angler who fished this round was welcomed with a free float and distance feeder!!
The day was of mixed emotions at the draw bag with no one really knowing where the winner was going to come from with the recent form of the venue.

Pete Bennet was the man of the day though today with him pulling out peg 124 , he new what he had to do and with the wind pushing over his back and blowing into the river bank hard , he was in for a comfortable days fishing!! Pete started off on the method feeder to catch F1’s off the point at 25 turns. Whilst doing this he was topping up his pole line hoping on the carp to move in for a munch … He wasted no time and in the closing hours of the match put a fine net of fish together for a winning weight of 69 lb and the round two winner of the Barston masters!!

A very close fight come for 2 nd and 3 rd spot between snowy ashington and wayne colloff……. Snowy put in a cracking performance on the river bank taking carp F1’s and skimmers on the method feeder at range with wayne a little further down doing the same…. It was wayne who just won the battle by nailing a cracking 21 lb common carp … Wayne colllof ended up weighing 59 lb 14 oz to snowy s 58 lb 14 oz for 3 rd spot.

The 3 rd round of the Barston masters took place on june 8 th and for once the weather was fantastic!! Thanks must go to Halkon hunt who were the main sponsors of this round who supplied 1st price with one of there superb halkon hunt fleece top and bottoms and the 13 section prizes along with Greys and Bagem match baits section prizes.

Well the weather has finally improved but with this comes the time when the fish get into spawning mode. Over the week the skimmers , carp and f1’s have finally been getting this out the way and on our 3 rd masters match this proved that the fish were in no mood for having a munch…

….although ….Billy Harris managed to find some fishing the method feeder at range to the island of peg 110. I had it reported that billy,s accuracy and tidy casting put fish in his net consistantly through out the match with f1’s and carp with a match winning weight of 61lb 8 oz .

2 nd spot went to Rich Toomer. Rich was also in Billy’s section and took f1’s and carp on the method….one of them that he had was a massive common which weighed 22 lb 6 oz. In 3 rd spot was Adrian cattel with 41 lb 8 oz.

In scorching conditions the 4 th round of the Barston masters , Thanks must go to Dave smalley Floats Greys and Bagem Match baits for sponsoring the round. This rounds match took place where most anglers were in a position where alot of cruising fish were infront of them and simply did not want to know … I think we have just had about every season of weather possible so far this year!!

However Barry Duggan from Warwick portabello managed to get them going from unfancied area peg 82 . Barry caught all his fish which was 28 skimmers on the method feeder for a match win of 58 lb .

2 nd place went to mr inform Mick Risby . Mick also caught on the method for a mixed bag of fish for 56 lb. closely followed by Gregg norris of bagem match baits with 53 lb .

The Final round of the Barston Masters has now taken place with all qualifying places being taken!! Thanks must go to Dino Floats who donated a fine selection of there floats to the top 3 placings. Also Greys and Bagem for sponsoring the section Prizes.

Top rod today was young Dan Tresign from Birmingham . Dan’s golden arm drew him peg 124 and put together a fine net of skimmers for a total weight of 96lb 10 oz . Dan caught on the pole through out the match finding the fish did not want the method feeder on the day!!

In second spot from the other end of the lake on peg 69 was Dave Pritchard from Coventry , Dave caught the bulk of his fish on paste down the edge for a total weight of 92 lb .

3rd went to swans bait man Mark Casemore on the the method with a weight of skimmers , f1 s and carp for 81lb .

The final for the Barston masters takes place on August 31st .
