TF_PaddyMw, i will being even if the earth freezes over.
Wont be needing an ice breaker on the River Severn though, cos the moving stuff dont freeze!
You say about a flsk of soup, which in the very cold weather is the dogs Nacks when your sitting there with not alot happening.
Just got to remember to put the rope in the car, due to the banks being like an ice rink, probably a combination of mud and ice – Lovely!
Tight lines if you get a bite! -

TF_Fred DavisI’ll be tucked up in a loverly warm house with all the family round for a celebration roast dinner a good bottle of vino or two, too think I could be sitting out on the bank like you chaps freezing me cods off drinking luke warm soup and eating a freezing cold sandwich (cold cheese I dare say) watching the ice hole freeze over before your very eyes i have to ask the question am I missing much?
Common sense has to tell me NO

TF_cormorantcutnut and co..
why do you seem to think that anyone with a little common sense who sees that the weather is likely to be bad and decides to give winter fishing a miss must be a wimp?
i fish for pleasure not pain and as i can now fish all year round what better time to take a break than when the weather is at it’s most evil.
do you seem to think that all winter anglers are hard men? often i think that they are bloody idiots………think about it!
enjoy your cold, wet and windy day on the bank………i will certainly be enjoying my day.
cheers,
cormorant -

TF_PaddyAgreed – no where near as bad as expected – bit chilly on the hands and nose, but other than that ok. Roach fed well on the Severn until about 3.30pm – the river had risen by about 3 to 4″ and had got alot more colour in it and only had 1 Perch in the last hour. Had 57 Roach up until that point with the best one being over a pound – Hooked fair and square in the tail! ha.

TF_Fred DavisI almost envy you, while sitting in the warm of my living room eagerly awaiting the roast leg of lamb with all the trimmings that well have for lunch with the rest of the family to coming around to celebrate a birthday, plenty of banter chat and good humour, the draw of winter fishing is still there and as soon as the weather goes up a degree or two I may even get the punch gear out for a few roach on the cornmill stream however like a lot of retired anglers we can now pick the time and place to fish the drive to get out on a sunday match in extreme conditions is less enviting. having said that for the hardy souls that did venture out I hope you had a good day with bulging nets and plenty of brown envelopes. Failing that theres always next week (forecast -3 brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr)

TF_DodgeFrosty and + 1 @ 6.45 am in Manchester suberbia……. 45 mins later in rural cheshire -3 lol.
Cat ice on canal but again small roach fed freely to liccy bread tactics , lovely winters fishing.
City beat the Arse aswell , snubbing the extortionate ticket pricing at the Emirates ….£62 WTF !!!
As weekends go ….. a pretty good one and a few quid saved and won ! 😎 🙂

TF_scrubbaHello Paddy.
Just out of interest, which part of the Severn were you fishing?
Cheers, tight lines.

TF_PaddyHow do mate – Stourport, just down stream of the Tontine (left of the Fair Ground). It fished well up stream of the fair ground from what i hear as well.
But, when the Severn is banging through, head for the Stour which joins the Severn at this point, you can walk to it if you are by the Tontine/canal basin.
All the best, Pad. -

TF_scrubbaThanks for the reply Paddy. Glad to hear the fishing has picked up down there. Sounds like you had a good day.

TF_PaddyWatch out for “Bob the Seal” – there is a seal in the mariner basin.
If you google it, you can find it on the Express and Star website.
Its been in there for a few weeks now and been spotted at Bewdley and the surrounding areas. It must of made it all the way up from the Bristol channel whilst the floods have been happening, Problem is, will it get back? me thinks not if the rivers are back to normal. Damn thing will have a right good scoffing on all the fresh water fish in the area. I think that it should be caught (if its possible to catch a Seal?), or if not, dare i say it, it should be shot.
here’s a link http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2013/01/17/demand-for-removal-of-bob-the-seal-from-stourport-marina/ -

TF_PaddyAnyway – Back to WIMPS! it’s -2.5 outside, the canal is frozen, the local pool is frozen and there will be a good 5 inches of snow on the river banks!
Who’s staying at home this weekend?? -

TF_PaddyDid you get any frozen prawn sandwiches? Anyway, that’s not proper football! Away at Sheffield Wednesday, sitting outside watching a boring nil nil draw in minus 4 and then a 2 hour return journey – now that’s football!
Ps, I Wimped Out as well! Wish i had’nt, i would of rather froze me nuts off on the river bank and battled Seals and snow melt with no bites. -
