Andy, we had a vicar in our club who loved his lure fishing, particularly in the weirstream at Romney Island on the Thames at Windsor. One day I’d been doing some strimming down there and during my lunch break went and sat behind him for a chat and during the space of about 40 mins saw his lure intended for Pike taken by an 8 lbs Bream, a 12 lbs Carp, a 7 lbs Barbel and a 3 lbs Chub but not a Pike in sight !
Most fish that grow to a large size become predatory to some extent, we’ve all heard of using Minnows as Barbel bait and I’ve seen Carp shoaling up small fry to eat but the Bream was the biggest surprise that day.
Taking your theory a bit further we know that Dace, Roach and Rudd will take a fly so I’m guessing a very small lure would also catch them in the right conditions !
Look forward to seeing the results on the programme tomorrow.
