        Not a stupid question……

What is the best foolproof method.

Im off to France on Tuesday on a family holiday (well wife thinks its that 😀 😀 😀 ) and I managed to fit a small rive c30 and footplate in roof box with carryall etc.

I was going to attach a small holdall with 4 rods to the roof bars and then tie it down with twine.

Any better ideas

cargo straps are far more reliable. Should be able to find them at B&Q or Halfords.
Bungees and twine and the like are asking for trouble.

I’m with cutnut. Webbing straps from a builders merchants or a camping shop. Alternatively use long cable ties, but these are not re-useable. Rod cases, for air transport, are ideal but expensive. However they have handles that can be adjusted to fit over roof bars & can be padlocked in place.
            Have a nice holiday.
            Regards Peter.
