        Rutland Water
        Fish week 1,064 (season 28,927) Returns 281(6,022) Rod average 3.78 (4.8)
Rutland Water has fished considerably well despite the heat wave conditions, with a weekly rod average of 3.78 coming from 281 rod returns, and a total of 1,064 fish caught. A good majority of these have come from the boat anglers, mainly fishing large areas of the main basin. The majority of the bank anglers headed for the Dam and were rewarded with fish during the day with numbers of fish moving very late in the evening.

Keith Jones of Glinton took the best fish of the week a specimen Brown which set the scales around 7lb 6oz. This fish was caught during the Tuesday Night Boat League and helped Keith to top spot on the night. The best Rainbow of the week weighed 5lb 1oz and fell to season ticket holder Chris McLeod. Chris was fishing for EFFA in a match against a Scottish select team.

Many methods have been working for boat anglers. Despite the weather people have caught many fish on nymphs on floating and midge tip lines with others taking fish on various sinking lines down to Di7 lines with mini lures and tube flies. Bank anglers have used nymphs, with numbers also falling to dry fly tactics.

Fishing does not seem to have been particularly effected by the hot weather, but a change in wind direction might be helpful. With virtually all boats fishing in the main basin the bottom of both arms remain quiet, however there are a number of significant weed beds showing now that the water level is dropping which will be of benefit in the long run.

Anglian Water Over 50’s Boat Match
This match was fished on Saturday with anglers benefitting from the overcast conditions. 20 anglers took part and returned a very creditable rod average of 5 fish per rod and it was a very closely fought match. John Slavin took the best fish of the match a Rainbow of 4lb 2½oz. The majority of fish came from all over the Main Basin with methods ranging from floating to Di 5, nymphs or blobs.

1st` Bob Shaw and Mike Phipps 16 fish for 38lb 7oz
2nd Keith Jones and Hilary Tomlinson 16 fish for 36lb 13oz

        Pitsford Water
        Fish week 214 (season 8,640) Returns 61 (2,481) Rod average 3.5(3.4)
Boat anglers venturing out in the heat have found that fish are still willing to take a fly if fished at depth and they have been rewarded with some cracking hard fighting sport.

Pitsford regulars Richard Williams and Will Linnell frequently share a half day boat every Sunday morning and rarely fail to catch their limit by lunch time. Last Sunday was no exception with the pair landing some fine Rainbows up to 5lb. Another angler familiar with Pitsford is Jim McGonigle who was on a holiday package. Jim was playing a very good trout when a Perch of 1¾lb took his dropper – sadly he landed the Perch but not the trout!

The rod average for the week has been a healthy 3.5. The biggest Rainbow of the week weighed in excess of 5lb and was taken by Doug Whibley who safely returned it. The best Brown was taken by Mr Dyson and weighed 4lb 12oz. The best methods have been Di5 or Di7 and boobies or blobs while bank anglers should look for deeper water at the Cliffs or Gorse Bank.

With heavy thundery showers and lightening forecast for the week all anglers are reminded of the need to stop fishing and set their rod down during a storm.

Best Rainbow 5lb plus (returned) by Doug Whibley of Wollaston.

        Ravensthorpe Reservoir
        Fish week 106 (season 4,735) Returns 32 (1,151) Rod average 3.3 (4.1)
Ravensthorpe had a slow start to the week but with the cloud and the cooler temperatures over the weekend the fish went wild.

Most of the anglers got into double figures, with the Boils the place to be. Best methods are floating lines with dries, black or claret hoppers, or black spiders. The washing line also produced lots of fish, red crunchers or diawl bachs on the droppers with a big bushy dry on the point. The bank anglers also did well either side of the valve tower, again floating lines, crunchers or diawl bachs.
