One of best match waters in the Midlands – Barston Lakes – played host to one of the most important matches in the calendar on Saturday in the form of the 2013 Kamasan British Open. It’s an event that has always attracted the cream of British match fishing talent and it was one of the biggest names of them all in the shape of Steve Ringer who took the coveted title thanks to a 119lb bag taken from peg 32 on the Method. The Solihill lake produced a very fair match, with the top five all topping the ton. Dale Shepherd was second with a pole-caught 111lb from peg 81, Phil Ringer third, Adam Wakelin fourth and Tommy Picking fifth with a level 100lb from unfancied peg 81. Venue owner Nigel Harrhy said: “Barston Lakes fished brilliantly considering the hot, flat calm conditions. Every peg has plenty of 4 oz skimmers in it at the moment, and they made up for a lot of weights. The anglers that framed however all fished for bigger fish, and the gamble paid off.” As of next year the event will be sponsored by Preston Innovations.
