        Rutland Water
        Fish week 1,034 (season 29,961) Returns 249 (6,271) Rod average 4.15 (4.77)
Regular boat partners Phil Welbourn from Market Deeping and Paul Kirkup of Kibworth, Leicestershire, had a very good day’s boat fishing taking an excellent bag of fish including Browns of 4lb 15¼oz to Phil, and a personal best Brown for Paul, weighing in at 7lb 11½oz. The pair fished deep with lures and ended up with eleven fish. Paul said “I knew it was going to be a long slog, with the weather being so hot, but we persevered and ended up with a personal best Brown from Rutland.”

The biggest Rainbow of the week fell to Simon Farrell of London. Simon’s fish was only ½oz lighter than Paul’s Brown at 7lb 11oz. Simon had an excellent day taking six more fish with his boat partner, all the fish fell to minkies.

Boat anglers are enjoying the best of the sport, but despite the hot weather Rutland Water is fishing to a rod average of 4.15. When the East wind was blowing the Main Basin was the place to be with very good water clarity. Later in the week the wind veered almost 180 degrees, clearing a lot of the Arms with the North Arm in particular producing some excellent bags.

There are good numbers of weedbeds appearing around the shoreline, harbouring plenty of this year’s fry, corixa and snails. Not many anglers have tried these areas as yet. Dries, minkies and floating fry patterns will start working. Prolonged westerly winds will suit bank and boat anglers alike.

        Fish week 256 (season 14,846) Returns 132 (3,331) Rod average 1.9 (4.45)
Fishing has been challenging in the hot, sunny conditions with the fish going deep to get away from the heat of the surface layers which is 24 degrees C. The fish seem to be holding at about 26 feet down and are taking static nymphs or buzzers. Hopefully with the lower temperatures and a constant South Westerly breeze forecast for the week the fish should start to feed better and come up in the water.

        Floating Line match 27 July
This match, fished last Saturday, was organised by Invicta and sponsored by Snowbee. Teams of four competed for some great prizes in the match fished in two halves with a mid day lunch provided for all the competitors. The challenge was for anglers to get down to the fish which were between 26-30 feet deep and to keep flies down there and static.

Fortunes varied for the 68 anglers competing with some blanking and one taking seven fish. Average fish size was 2lb 15oz. The best fish was taken by Keith Nicholson of Tunbridge Wells Youth Team. This stunning 4lb 14oz Rainbow was part of a 7 fish bag of 22lb 4oz which won Keith the prize for top rod on the day. Keith and his boat partner Lawson Wight, of Invicta A, won the best boat pair contest with 8 fish for 23lb 13oz.

The top local angler was Mark Haycock with three fish for 11lb 2oz which gave his team Invicta B the Old Interclub floating line prize.

        Fish week 381(season 9,021) Returns 135(2,616) Rod average 2.8(3.4)
The weed growth is restricting some of the bank fishing at Pitsford Water but the boat anglers are catching lots of good quality fish so why not get afloat for some great sport. Ray Linnette did just that on Thursday and came off the water with 8 fish for 25lb 8oz. He included fish of 6lb and 5¼lb in his bag.

Brian Moore had a limit by 10.30 a.m. fishing on the rudder in the Main Basin. Pitsford regulars Ray Buckland and Graham Coe had 8 fish each, Ray taking the hounours this time with his 8 fish weighing over 23lb.

Simon Vandrill had a cracking Pike while lure fishing on a predator ticket. The fish was estimated at well over 20lb and was returned safely to the water.

Jim McGonigle ended his three day boat holiday package with a nice bag of fish, the best at 5lb 2oz. Bank anglers are still catching fish with the Cliffs and Gorse bank being the best area. The best boat areas are the Dam, Boils and Narrows. Fish are now fry feeding quite heavily and suggested patterns are minkies, boobies and sparklers.

Best Rainbow 6lb taken by Ray Linnette.

Best Brown 5lb plus returned to the water.

Best methods Sinking lines, minkies, boobies or blobs.

        Ravensthorpe Reservoir
        Fish week 141 (season 4,876) Returns 35 (1,186) Rod average 4.0 (4.1)
Ravensthorpe continues to fish well from both bank and boat. Dave McSeveny had a great day fishing damsels on a floating line, he had 19 Rainbows plus a cracking Brown to the boat. Dave fished between the Boils and the Catwalk.

Mr Brooks lost several fish before he hooked and landed a cracking 6lb 4oz Rainbow -the best fish of the week. He and his boat partner Mr Adams managed 17 fish to the boat on Saturday. Popular methods include floating line with red crunchers or diawl bachs boat fished from the Boils.

The Dam near the valve tower is the area to fish off the bank. Mitch Brown had a dozen fish here on Saturday morning and John Smith had five. Floating lines with red diawl bachs or crunchers, damsels, also working. Most anglers are catching between 4 and 6 fish.

Best Rainbow 6lb 4oz taken by Mr Brooks.

Best methods Floating lines with crunchers and diawl bachs catching well. Hoppers and black spiders taking some good fish.

Best boat areas Boils holding lots of fish.

Best bank areas Dam weed making fishing challenging, however, some weed clearance is being done.

Mid week boat winner Mr B Dunn of Eye.

        Fish stocked 400.
