        Rutland Water
        Fish week 443 (season 30,404) Returns 114 (6,385) Rod average 3.88 (4.76)
The best fish of the week went to Jim Watts of Ryhall who weighed in a 5lb 8oz Rainbow. Phil Wellbourne landed the best Brown of the week at 4lb 14½oz. A good number of Rainbows around 3lb were recorded again this week. Browns are also showing with Edith Weston’s Malcolm March returning five Browns on three separate visits, these ranged from 2½lb up to an estimated 5lb.

114 Rod returns gave an average of 3.88 for the week. The heat wave has not yet relented, but despite this fish were caught in three areas of the reservoir – the main basin, middle of the North Arm and the bottom of the South Arm. The best advice in all areas is to fish upwind in the clearer water.

It was a question of who dares wins for travelling anglers Tony Nattrass and Peter Blyth who made their way down from Co Durham last Tuesday and fished from late afternoon into the evening, eventually finding some fish at the bottom of the South Arm. The pair enjoyed an overnight stay and then had a full day’s fishing down the South Arm and were rewarded with a limit apiece including a 4lb 6oz Rainbow and five more over 3lb.

        Rod and Reel Open Day
This was an excellent day with good numbers of anglers trying prospective new rods and reels with the bonus of some casting tuition from experts Robbie Winram, Peter Hartley and Jim Fearn (Guide Flyfishing).

Tuesday Night Boat League week 12
Gary’s quick eight wins the night! Gary Cooper of Empingham won week 12 with a quick fire 8 fish from the main basin. Although Gary won there were eight fish limits with Chris Evans taking his eight fish limit in less than an hour!
        1st Gary Cooper 8 fish for 16lb 9¼oz
        2nd Graham Haywood 6 fish for 16lb 4oz
        3rd Geoff Wanless 8 fish for 15lb 0oz
With only two weeks remaining of the league, competition is hotting up. With current leader Richard Cooper away for the last two weeks Keith Jones has been able to claw back a few more points.

        Grafham Water
        Fish week 223 (season 15,069) Returns 112 (3,443) Rod average 2.0 (4.37)
The comparatively cooler, cloudier weather has improved fishing conditions. Fish are now moving up in the water column and on cloudy days are only a couple of feet down, but soon return to the depths on bright days. Anglers using small fry imitations around the weed beds are getting the best results as well as those fishing shrimp patterns along the face of the dam.

        Competition news
On Wednesday Grafham hosted the second match of the AMFC division 2 group with 5 of the 6 teams taking part. Invicta A team were the hosting club, with a couple of poor results in the last two matches they need to do very well. Anglers knew it was going to be a hard match with every pull counting. At the weigh in everyone knew the results would be close but Invicta A pulled it out of the bag with a glorious win by just over 24lb thanks to Mark Haycock and Kieran Bonas who were the only two anglers to catch their limit. Mark was the overall winner with his bag weighing an impressive 27lb 14oz – all of his fish were taken on a fry pattern between 2pm and 4pm from around the weed beds in Savages. Young Kieran took his limit from the North tower. The best fish went to Tony Donnely from Bristol FFA – this magnificent Brown weighing 5lb 5oz was taken from Church Bay on a red holographic diawl bach.
        1st Invicta A 22 fish for 62lb 2oz
        2nd Queen Mother 19 fish for 48lb 8oz
        3rd Bristol FFA 14 fish for 41lb 7oz
        4th Royal Navy/Marines 9 fish for 22lb 11oz
        5th Tunbridge Wells 7 fish for 17lb 9oz
With this result the group has become very tight on points going into the final with two matches to go with any of the five teams up for promotion or demotion they have it all to play for.

        Pitsford Water
        Fish week 297(season 9,318) Returns 56 (2,672) Rod average 5.2 (3.5)
Pitsford Water continues to fish well, whatever the weather. Anglers are enjoying great sport at the moment from the boats on all sorts of methods.

Sinking lines with blobs, boobies or lures, floating lines with nymphs, emergers or dries are working well. Rudder fishing with tubes or lures are catching quality fish. Many fish between 4 and 6lb are being caught.

Bank fishing is a bit more challenging at the moment with a lot of weed growth. Plans are in hand to deal with some of the weed. Anglers are catching a few fish from the Cliffs, Holly Tree and the Gorse Bank.

Best Rainbow 6lb 8oz taken by T Thomas of Coventry.

Best Brown 6lb plus returned to the water.

Best methods Sinking lines and lures.

        Ravensthorpe Reservoir
Fish week 165 (season 5,041) Returns 36(1,222) Rod average 4.5(4.1)
Another good week at Ravensthorpe with plenty of fish being taken on most methods. Bob Draper fished the dam early in the week and had 9 fish on crunchers/hares ear. Mr Long had 12 fish around the Boils on diawl bachs. Mr Welch and his boat partner had 23 fish on damsels and diawl bachs.

Other notable catches included Jamie Blaney who had more than twenty fish from the Dam and another angler, fishing his first season on an annual permit, who took 19 fish off the Dam. A variety of methods have been working according to the different conditions. Geoff Makin fished a non pattern minkie and caught on his first cast, along with many more.

Best methods Floating lines still working well with hares ear, diawl bachs and crunchers. Dries worth a go and wets on windier days.

Best boat areas Boils and Main Bowl.

        Best bank areas Dam.

Mid week boat winner G Verity of Salisbury.
