TF_LolBI know all the England teams put massive amounts of time and money into fishing for England. But the last two events were won using methods little used in this country, hand on heart i have only used a whip three times this season and the bolo only once in a match this season,This thread is not about natural v commercial. My point is how long before we get left behind by the rest. Don’t get me wrong i think our anglers are the best at all methods.Surely it’s time the England set started running matches and inviting the top teams in this country to compete and fish too fips rules. One idea be for winter leagues have two matches on a river, two on a lake and two on a canal.

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantI think its time we brought the international stage onto commercials

TF_LolBwell that’s not gonna happen anytime soon. Were the only country in Europe that’s gone down that road. In France they even have a whip fishing championship.I have fished the river Somme at Abertville and the fishing was fantastic. Wish i could fish there more.

Non runner. Not many commercials which can put 35 man sections in a row with uniform depth and the requisite access to each peg.

TF_LolBMy point is we need to change the format of w/l and this will in turn allow young anglers to learn all the methods needed. you only have two look at the ringer brothers to see whats been lost to the england team.Ps i know they fish the feeder champs but is not fished to fips rules

Why would everybody want to fish 3 hour matchs to FIP rules just so a few anglers can fish for England. There arn’t the venues around for everybody to fish these riules. We don’t want to go down this road at all.

TF_One fishTotally agree with the last comment. I had the chance to go down the international route years ago but turned it down. It never suited me, if matches were run to those rules I would turn them down. A lot might not so I do agree with holding both types of matches.

If this country started looking after its natural venues and fish stocks and not turning their backs on them we wouldn’t have commercials this is why all the countries in the world champs haven’t gone the commie route if it wasn’t for the select few who put themselves out to learn these methods do you think that England teams would be the best in the world I don’t think so

TF_One fishI love natural venues and also enjoy a lot of commercials, just do not want to fish to international rules.

TF_wiggley wormInternational rules just levels the playing field it’s the same for everyone don’t you ever get fed up of all the different rules at different venues

TF_LolBIt would be for the top teams in the country to fish these invited matches. Otherwise we will eventually end up like the England footie team. My team would love to get to fish the matches if it were to happen.

TF_inky fingerFirstly i have to say i do not fish matches but love the float . On the subject of techniques that are not often used outside the international level. Strange match rules were applied to a recent local ‘ float only match’…. no slider fishing allowed ? so anglers didn’t lay line on the bottom to slow the float down and give a feeder like presentation which bream like. Sad. The match was won with for the second time this season 39lb of skimmers and roach on the pole and i learnt nothing new.

good point but unless you’ve fished in Europe and see how these countries organise the competitions you can’t possably understand .its away of life over there and often two 3hrs matches take place with a barbcue in the middle of the day all very relaxed no money involved prizes and trophies it makes a differents believe me
we fished the Sensas final ok it was a one off with over 1,200 anglers the match length stretched for 45 km access was brilliant roads close to the river signs and direction brilliant all for 4 hours fishing the 2nd day we had to be on the bank for 7am and in october i can asure you its dark yet all the competitors had lights on there heads
and do you know what i wouldn’t of missed that competition for world
i also think another point made is if we looked after our Natural venues rivers canals and lakes increased access along river banks clear pegs we would see a return to them .but lets not forget commercials have saved a lot of business from going under in the trade and have there place as well and in fairness commercials are cropping up in France,Spain and Italy WHETHER THEY WILL CATCH ON AS THERE RIVERS ARE STUFFED WITH FISH -

TF_LolByes joff i have fished a cpl of matches out in france. one canal and one river., learnt so much about how groundbait works and yes commercials did save the tackle trade. I remember there were few commercials then so the matches were sell outs i used to fish gold valley in those days. Now you wouild be hard pushed to find a 100 pegger on a commercial. My team has just finished fishing the southern canal league 14 teams of 6. But my main point is we have been blessed with some great anglers over the last thirty years, all of whom came through fishing natural venues to hone their skills. but now we have a new breed of angler some of which have never fisheded a natural venue. Just remembered how good the ringers were on natural venues maybe mark downes should give them a call up.

TF_joffmiesterI agree steve and the rest of the family are very good and there is a long list of anglers that could break the mould and fish for England .i think Marks job is the hardest job to keep control of all these anglers eased a little by the Feeder world team
i’ve been a close friend to Steve hemingray over the past 20 years it’s taken Steve some very big decisions over those 20 years to finally get in the England team.Nobody blows Steves trumpit and Steve has never spoke out like others yet Steve has worked like the rest of us Monday to Friday with only the odd day off for features or matches the work he has put in has finally been noticed. so i’m pretty sure steve ringer knows what it takes without us suggesting it for him.Mark has his scouts out there believe me steve would be on or around there list 😉 😉 -

i used to run a summer league 2 river 2 canal 2 lake 2 commercial it was brilliant it went on for 4 seasons with 18 team then 16 then 10 until it wasn’t worth organising as anglers dropped out to fish commercials
cips matches i’d fish every week but its not everyone’s cup of tea
to make leagues work first you need a list of teams that want to compete needless to say it will be against the top teams in the country .This can put off teams from entering why i don’t know there is nothing better than winning against the best and it happens what other sport can you sit next to a 5 times world champ and on the other side a European champ and after the match what ever the result you would of learn’t more in that 5 hours than you would fishing a knockup
Team fishing is being knocked to death with very little help from the voice of angling prize money need increasing better access it all has to start somewhere -

TF_LolBI would jump at the chance to fish cips matches. I am starting to think it’s the pools money thats the problem. The matches i fish the pools are between £20 and £25 and when you work out the costs of bait and everything else it can work out at a days wages to go fishing for some people. in France no pools as you know and sell out matches. Also no peg fee’s out there.

TF_joffmiesterpools are a problem nowadays as a lot of us have to think of other bills first before fishing yet £20 hasn’t changed for a long time ok bait on top ,On the other hand planned right you could run a cips match once a month
Match fishing and team fishing has hit rock bottom due to excessive admin charges like the Nationals we need to go back to basic formats spread the money out and start to enjoy competition fishing again win or loose fishing against the best will only improve your own fishing 😉 😉 😉
