        Statement From John Middleton Re 2013 Ivan Marks Memorial

        ‘After I walked the match stretch on the Welland yesterday it was obvious that the the river was in a poor state.

        ‘Gin clear water and a severe weed problem along with floating rafts of weed that in some places were strung across the whole width. Experience tells me that it is not going to get any better.

        In view of these adverse conditions a decision has been taken to cancel the event for this year. All cheques already received will be returned.’

          Me and my mate said exactly the same thing when we drove its length yesterday,a very good decision in my opinion.

            To be honest with you, on the Welland at the end of summer what do you expect? That is what the river is. Always has been, always will be.

              agreat shame back in the day it was a brilliant venue hard but fair a little TLC would be nice from the EA

                Why not just organise match fo a tad later in year…given shuffle in climate change ?¿?
