        Fish week 877 (season 1,827) Returns 138 (252) Rod average 6.35 (7.25)

Rutland Water has been in tremendous form with reports of lots of fish being caught along with a number of limits for both bank and boat anglers who are enjoying consistent results in the settled weather conditions.

Anglers who have caught some good sized fish this week include Jim Watts from Ryhall who had the best Rainbow – an overwintered specimen of 5lb 1oz. Jim paid a brief visit and fished the right hand wall in the lodge harbour. Leicestershire angler Roland McKendrick took a good 5lb Rainbow whilst boat fishing. Curtis Thompson fishing in a ‘Yorkshire’ game angling match managed three over wintered Rainbows in his eight fish limit that won this event for a total of 19lb 2¾oz. Last Saturday saw some excellent bags of fish coming off the water from most permitted areas. Father and son Mr N and Mr E Barker of Mansfield both had limits from Whitwell Creek with all the fish falling to buzzer patterns.

Fish have been feeding hard on the huge hatches of small buzzers that have been occurring every day with small patterns presented on floating and midge tip lines working very well, some fish are feeding close into the shoreline on corixa.

The best areas for bank anglers in variable easterly winds have been Sykes Lane, Normanton, the Dam, Yellowstones down to Old Hall Flats. Boat anglers have caught well from Sykes Lane either side of the church and Yellowstones to the Old Hall.

With an increase in temperature it is not surprising to see fish moving on top, with one or two actually falling to dry fly tactics. Fish have been seen moving off the Dam, Sykes Lane, the Church and Hambleton Wood.

1 April sees the lifting of the winter restrictions, opening up beyond the sailing limits for boat anglers and giving bank anglers access to the Sailing Club, the Transformer, Dickensons Bay, Old Hall, Green Bank, and the previously closed areas on the peninsular from Armley Wood to Spud Bay. 1 April is also the start of the Brown trout season with one brown trout permitted per bag per person.

        Grafham Water
        Fish week 835 (season 1,891) Returns 117 (277) Rod average 7.13(6.8)
Grafham Water continues to fish well for both bank and boat anglers with an excellent rod average of 7.13. Beginner Neil Fitzjohn from St Albans had a very good day whilst boat fishing at Grafham. Neil, on his first visit, managed to catch a superb conditioned Rainbow of 4lb 6oz and he also released a further 5 Rainbows from the Willows on an intermediate line with a black lure.

Bank anglers have enjoyed a tremendous week’s fishing with the north shore producing the vast majority of fish caught with Hill Farm, Deep Water Point, G Buoy and the North end of the Dam all producing good consistent catch rates. Whilst on the South Shore the Seat and Gaynes Cove have all produced good consistent fishing for the bank anglers. The most prolific method from the bank has been for anglers to fish black and olive buzzers, gold ribbed hares ears and black and green lures fished slowly on a floating line.

Boat anglers have also had some stunning sport with the north shore again providing the most consistent areas. Hill Farm, Hedge End, Rectory Bay, G Buoy, Willows and the North Dam have all fished consistently on medium to fast sink lines with black and olive buzzers, diawl bachs, orange blobs, vivas and cats whisker boobies again fished slow. Gaynes Cove on the south shore has also fished well for the boat anglers by using the same method as on the north shore.

        Pitsford Water
        Fish week 142 (season 1,688) Returns 76 (387)

The settled weather has seen the fish feeding on some good buzzer hatches at Pitsford Water this week. Teams of buzzer and bloodworm fished on floating lines have produced good bags of fish from all areas of the lake and a healthy rod average of 4.3 for the season to date has been maintained. Amongst those taking good bags were day ticket angler Will Linnell who took his limit fishing in Stone Barn and season ticket holder Chris Young who took seven fish on buzzers in Bog Bay.

The best bank areas are Gorse, Cliffs, Stilton, Bog Bay and Stone Barn with the best patterns being buzzer, diawl bach and PTN’s.

Boat fishing has been just as productive with boat anglers fishing the same methods around the margins, again taking good numbers of fish. Boat anglers are reporting good numbers of fish from all areas of the water.

With the bank fishing so well, entries for the new bank match on 13 April are being taken. Get your team entries to Chris at the fishing lodge.

Tuesday 13 May sees the start of the Tuesday Night Boat League at Pitsford Water. Fishing will be from 6pm with a weekly prize for a free boat and the overall winner of the league receiving tackle vouchers.

        Ravensthorpe Reservoir
        Fish week 776 (season 2,620) Returns 79 (269) Rod average 9.8(9.7)

Anglers have enjoyed a fantastic week of sport at Ravensthorpe. The rod average is up to nearly 10 fish per angler. The fish have been feeding on buzzers and with the water gin clear they are fighting hard.

The best fish of the week was a 9lb Rainbow taken by Ikey Dodge, on a black and green lure, a personal best for him. Ravensthorpe regular Mick Griffin and Roger Harrison had 63 fish to the boat on Tuesday, all taken on red buzzer and red diawl bachs. Lloyd Crabb enjoyed his first time out trout fishing, catching a super hard fighting 4lb 8oz Rainbow on a red buzzer.

Bank anglers have also been catching fish from the Platforms and the Dam, with buzzers being the best method. But the best catches are coming from the boats at the moment.

The best methods have been floating line, long leaders with buzzers or diawl bachs, red or green the best colours, fished static or very slow.
