        Fish week 1,013(season 19,563) Returns 291(4,306) Rod average 3.48 (4.54)
There have been some notable catches at Rutland Water this week. Kenneth Lamb had a fantastic day fishing with dries down the bottom of the North Arm on Thursday 19th, taking 8 fish for 25lb 8oz including a 5lb 14oz Rainbow. Several other anglers recorded good catches from Lax Hill, Green Bank, Spud Bay, Church Bay, Dickinson’s, Transformer, Sykes Front to Stockie Bay.

Phil Brown took 7 fish including a 7lb rainbow plus another at 4lb plus, both of these fish took a floating fry. The other 5 fish he took on diawl bachs whilst fishing the full length of the dam.

Rudder fishing has been quiet of late as the fish just haven’t been interested in large lures.

Off the bank, Martin Hearth, from Hambleton, had a quick limit this week from Green Bank. Phil Brown of Empingham had some very nice fish off the Dam. Sykes Lane frontage has produced many fish feeding on pin fry.

Several other anglers have reported good sized fish round Sykes Lane and the Green Bank area, although not easy to catch as most of the fish are still taking pin fry.

        Annual Hunt Match 16 June
42 Anglers took part in this annual pairs match which is now in its 29th year at Rutland Water. The day was windy with some heavy showers which made fishing uncomfortable at times and slight changes of wind direction didn’t help. Following the match anglers enjoyed an excellent meal at Olivettis, Rutland Fishing Lodge.

Most of the fish were taken from Lax Hill in the South Arm and the Transformer in the North Arm on floating lines with crunchers or diawl bachs.

The best fish was taken by John Farnsworth – a very nice Rainbow. Tom Gamble took the best bag with 8 fish for 17lb 10oz.

Anglian Water Airflo International – Midland Heat 21 June

Fourteen teams came forward to fish this match on a bright, sunny day. Despite these challenging conditions the match still fished to a rod average of 3.33. The best methods were to fish midge tip lines on the washing line method with boobies on the top and point and red diawl bachs or crunchers in the middle. Simon Lehane fishing for SKB Fishbums was the top rod with a total bag weight of 23lb 7oz. Bill Rankin (Team Grand Max) took the best fish at 4lb 11½oz. The top seven teams go forward to fish the Midlands Final at Grafham on 21 July.

        Pitsford Water
        Fish week 270(season 7,560) Returns 121 (1,747) Rod 2.2 average (4.3)
Difficult weather conditions have affected the fishing at Pitsford this week. The constant high pressure coupled with hot, humid conditions have put the fish off the feed and had an impact on the rod average for the week. But with more overcast weather forecast this week conditions should improve.

Despite the challenging conditions there have been some notable catches and results. Season ticket holder Andy Shortland had a couple of hours off the bank on Saturday evening and caught six fish, losing another couple along the way. Andy fished home tied buzzers and sedge patterns in Bog Bay and spoke of lots of fish moving in the margins after the sun went down. This was the theme for the week with most fish being taken either early in the morning or last thing.

        Competition news
The Mid Northants Fly Fishers held a boat pairs match for the Bruce Richardson Trophy on Sunday with 22 anglers fishing in challenging conditions. Barry Jones and boat partner Les Prickett won with Barry also coming out top individual (and winning the Julian Davies Cup) with 5 fish for 10lb 8oz. Seumas Halliday took the best fish at 2lb 12oz. Terry Bayes was second and Grant Gibson took third place.

        Tuesday Night Boat League
Ten anglers fished this friendly match last week in tough conditions. Pete Webb extended his lead at the top with a three fish catch, closely followed by Geraldine Harris and Neil Freeman.

The best areas are Bog Bay, Duffers and Stilton from the bank and Dam, Sailing Club and Gorse from the boats. Persevere with buzzer and nymph tactics but fish deep and slow in the hot conditions. Damsel nymphs are well worth a try.

        Best Rainbow 5lb 6oz.

Best boat areas Gorse, Stilton Point, Dam.

Best bank areas Duffers, Stilton Point.

Best methods Floating lines with buzzers and diawl bachs.

        Ravensthorpe Reservoir
Fish week 514(season9,751) Returns 92(1,284) Rod average 5.5(7.5)

A testing week for most anglers both boat and bank fishing has been rather patchy. Fishing should benefit from the more overcast conditions forecast for the coming week.

Fishing the washing line with F.A.B. on the point with red diawl bach seemed to be the most effective method for most anglers. Fish are being taken on dries. Steve Cullen took 14 fish mainly on small Bob’s Bits. Jerry Bolns took a Rainbow of 7lb and Neil Freeman took a fish of 7lb on F.A.B.

Best Rainbow 7lb taken by Jerry Bolns.

Best boat areas To left of Island bank side.

        Best bank areas Dam.

        Best methods See report.

Mid week boat winner Roger Kerrison of Daventry.
