The strong winds last week disrupted boat fishing. On one of the calmer days Ron Oldroyd of Empingham had a cracking day with eight fish. Ron fished Loch Style and said he found plenty of fish in many areas, fishing close in to the shoreline with nymphs and fry patterns. Among those fish caught were two large Browns which were safely returned to the water. Anglers fishing on the rudder struggled to find fish. Fish are moving closer in to the shoreline in search of fry, corixa, snails and shrimps.Bank anglers are again catching fish close in. Anglers prepared to keep on the move have had most success. However, in calm conditions the Normanton bank from the church is the place to be with fish very close in to the bank. Other areas to try are East Creek, the bays on the peninsula, Whitwell Creek and Ernie’s Point.
The Fur and Feather match will be fished on Sunday 6 December and bookings are being taken.
Around 15 boats will be available in December and January. Please note during December and January boats will not be available on Mondays or Tuesdays.Best methods Fry, nymphs and dries worth using.

As Fishery News went to press today (Monday 16th), news came through of a lovely Brown taken by regular angler Keith Moray. Keith caught and released a fine Brown of 5lb 7oz. He was fishing a shrimp pattern on a floating line on the Harbour Arm. Keith went on to catch another Brown of 5lb followed by another of 3lb, all three fish were returned to the water safely.Grafham Water continues to provide excellent sport for the time of year with 30% of fish caught weighing 3lb or over. Sport has been predominantly from the South shore and Dam with the best areas being the Seat, Gaynes Cove and the South Dam. Floating line with shrimp or hares ear or floating line with a blob on the dropper and a snake on the point are the most popular methods.

A blustery week at Ravensthorpe with mixed fortunes for trout and Pike anglers. The week started off slowly with only a few Pike anglers fishing and enjoying little success apart from the odd follow from good fish. This all changed on Wednesday when Mr Butler hooked and landed a fine 20lb specimen.Wednesday was also a good day for Trevor Heseltine from Bridgnorth. Trevor landed a fantastic 12lb Rainbow on a small minkie. He and his boat partner had several other fish around the 2lb stamp. On Saturday John Smith boat fished alongside Mick Griffin and the pair boated several fish off Mongers.
Best methods for trout from the boat and bank are various fry patterns on intermediate or fast sinking lines. Cats whiskers, snakes and minkies are all worth a try. Bank anglers are still catching a few fish from the Dam and Mongers with a roving approach the best bet.
