Rutland Water
Highlight of the week at Rutland Water was the popular Fur and Feather with well stocked festive hampers awarded to the top three rods.
Despite the unsettled weather leading up to Sunday’s match it was an amazing turnout with 48 anglers fishing the banks at Rutland. Winner was Martin Hearth of Hambleton with a total weight of 13lb 11oz. Martin’s six fish limit was taken on humungus from the Normanton Bank.
Second was Iain Barr with six fish for 13lb exactly. Iain found fish in very shallow water in Barnhill Creek, fishing a floating fry on the point coupled with two nymphs.
Third was Oakham’s Matt Gregory with four fish including the best Rainbow of the competition at exactly 3lb. Matt’s bag limit went 8lb 8oz. Fish were caught from the Transformer, the Finches and Barnhill Creek on the Peninsula.
Other popular spots included Old Disabled Bay, Fishing Lodge frontage and the Normanton bank.
Prospects for the coming week look more promising with southerly winds and mild conditions forecast. Boats are still available from Wednesday through to Sunday.

Grafham Water
Fish week 195 (Season 27,726) Returns 69(6,730) Rod average 2.82 (4.12)
Grafham Water has continued to fish well over the past week with a good rod average of 2.82 with 25% of all trout caught weighing 3lb or over.
Due to the high winds that have been present on the reservoir in recent weeks the bank anglers have had the best of the sport with only the southern bank being able to be fished. However, the Seat, Sailing Club Bay, Gaynes Cove, Plummer bank and the South Dam have all produced good consistent catch rates on either floating or intermediate lines with shrimp patterns, hares ear, minkies and snakes fished slowly.
Important notice to anglers
Brown trout are now out of season. Please ensure any Browns caught are returned safely to the water. Boat restrictions are now in place along the western shore of the reservoir, these are on display at the shop counter.
