Nathan Buckingham has beaten the British barbel record with this 23lb beauty. 

Nathan, who is no stranger to massive barbel having landed fish of 19b and 20lb last season, opted to fish an area down from the Kings Weir Water on the River Lea in an area few people target.

The swim was relatively shallow and gravelly, but with extra water on, Nathan fancied it.

He fed nothing, just casting out a cube of luncheon meat on a size 8 hook and braided hook link. The fish was weighed on two sets of scales and Nathan will be claiming.
