REPORT
Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society’s Annual Outing for the R S Kirkland Memorial Trophy was held on The Arena Pool at Cudmore Fishery, the venue that hosted last weekend’s Fish-O-Mania’ contest.
Although the 25 anglers had to combat a gusting wind and heavy rain throughout the latter half of the match, excellent catches were taken from all round the lake, averaging nearly 40 lb per angler.
Top weight on the day was nearly 40lb more than that taken by the previous week’s ‘Fish-O’ winner, and catches taken by the next three would all have ‘shaken’ the ‘Fish-O’ top weight, all being well clear of the second placed angler for the £25k televised match.
John Adamson, fishing peg 14, included carp to 12 lb 12 oz in his winning 115 lb 8 oz weight.  Fishing method feeder, John caught 4 fish in the first hour, very little in the next two but then caught steadily to the end of the match.  His 21 carp, 3 bream and a tench included 4 fish over 10 lb, and put him well clear of the field. His biggest fish was around a kilo bigger than the £2,500 winning biggest fish from Fish-O-Mania.
(Attached are photographs of Winner John Adamson with part of his 115 lb 8 oz catch, and 2nd & 3rd placed Carl Henrick & Dave Cotterill with their barbel catches.)
Second place fell to current LEVAS Championship leader Carl Henrick.  Carl fished chopped worm, meat and caster on long pole for a superb barbel catch of 72 lb (peg 6), just enough to beat third placed Dave Cotterill (peg 31) whose 69 lb 4 oz of barbel were taken mainly on straight bomb and meat about two-thirds of the way over.  Les (Bow) Overmass with his 68 lb 4 oz all barbel catch took fish on meat presented on the pole from peg 26.
Fifth and sixth places were Lee Ensall (peg 22) with 49 lb 8 oz and Ian Smart (peg 48) with 48 lb from peg 27.
Next LEVAS match is for the Mansfield Cup, 9 August, on Grange Pond.
