I was told today my a work college, that there is an article in the Coventry Evening Telegrapth, regarding a raid in an area of Coventry, and in excess of £10k worth of tackle has been retrieved.

I’m led to believe there is an open day at one of the Coventry stations for possiable people who have had tackle stolen.

So if you have been un fortunate enough to have had gear stolen in and around the area, it may be worth picking up the telegraph.

Sorry my post is a little vauge, but with out a copy of the paper, i can only post what i know.

        Hope this helps guys.

What an absolutely fantastic result, and as long as you can prove that what they have recovered its yours then marvellous. If you’ve already claimed on your insurance and bought new stuff should you legally/morally return the replacements and reimburse the insurance company? ~think

Culprit from Bell Green, what a shock!!

Released on Police Bail, what crap.~naughty

Entrapment – no way. he had no business taking the bike. Decoy or not his sticky fingers should’ve left well alone.

Excellent piece of work by the police. Perhaps thsoe who love to bash the police at every ocassion will now eat a little slice of humble pie.

There are a great number of superb police officers out there whose reputation is ruined by the lazy minority.

              Great work lads.

Brilliant result but I thought that there was a law that stopped ‘entrapment’. Whilst I think that in this case the police did a very good job, and taking anything that is ‘lost’ and not reporting to the police is in effect ‘stealing’ where does ‘entrapment’ begin and good policing stop?

                    Found this on entrapment;
                    Police entrapment and court proceedings

The issue of evidence gained from police entrapment activity in court cases is a hazy area in terms of how relevant it is in conviction; Sometimes, where criminal activity has been ‘encouraged’ or facilitated by a law enforcement officer, evidence derived may not ‘stand up in court’ when it is considered that the integrity of the legal system is in jeopardy due to such actions. Where it is deemed that the authorities involved in the committed crime should be disciplined for this reason, criminal proceedings in court can be ‘stayed’ (stopped).

                    Entrapment as a defence?

Entrapment cannot be used as a defence in court proceedings.

not sure i undertand that, would it help if i read the article..?

Yes it would help to read the article, but to summarise the police left a bicycle with a tracker device on it . They hoped it was stolen, it was and when they tracked it back to the guys house they found the gear.

Thanks for the kind words mate, as soon as i was told about it, i remembered your post about your gear, i thought i’d give you a ring, as i know some people are not reguler visitors to total fishing, and not every one buys the local paper. Sorry to interrupt your meeting, and i hope some of the gear turns out to be yours.

                          Andy.

Fancy having the viewing between 10am – 2pm on a Sunday, when there’s a higher chance of people actually being on the bank lol !!

Maybe some body could post the link on MFS and such like ?

thanks, with regard to the cycle then. that has been done before and is not entrapment. The definition clealry states that the thought of the criminal act would have to be placed in the persons mind by the officers or agents actions (a prime example of entrapment is an officer posing as a prostitute and geting a person to solicit them) Theft by finding took place here, and im glad as it led to the discovery of a secondary offence; which will not be affected by the means that lead to it in this case

How long had he had the bike in his possession? Was he going to inform the police he had it, found it where they had left it? Was he looking after it and had not had the chance to report it

All excuses a good brief will use and then plead leniency as he came clean about the other items.

                              Cut his hands off.

Probably ruined someone’s life after their hard earned gear was lifted.

lol, i wasnt going to get involved in the obvious defences. a decent interviewing copper might ask how far had the person ridden the cycle home (Which clealry didnt belong to him) that would make all the usual defences redundant.

im just glad they found the tackle too…
