Fish shoaling tight you need to be on a shoal to do well

        General

Fishing slightly lighter end tackle for winter bites, water temp went to 3 deg Tuesday morning and Bassetts froze over Tuesday, as well as ice forming around the larger lakes. The water temperature has crept back up to 4.7 deg since. If you get onto a shoal you can get some good catches both silvers and carp and some quality sized fish. If on the bomb it is advisable to not put any feed in till you get into a shoal, if on the feeder only a tiny bit of feed best to get the feed in then change to bomb, if on float or pole try just with hook bait, then if not successful only a tiny bit of feed.

        Lookout

Good fishing if you get onto a shoal, fish moving but not far in the water temperatures, Wed match produced a good 94lb 3oz bag of carp, and 78lb7oz on Sunday again in very horrible conditions, If on the bomb it is advisable to not put any feed in till you get into a shoal, if on the feeder only a tiny bit of feed best to get the feed in then change to bomb, if on float or pole try just with hook bait, then if not successful only a tiny bit of feed, Several Perch over 2 lb also being caught, and good sized silvers and some cracking carp.

        Bowes

Some good quality larger fish being caught but obviously with the low water temperature they do not fight so hard, although saying that the biggies do just take of and go, so be prepared. You must find the shoals to get good numbers of fish as they are tightly packed together. Be prepared to move around in front of your peg to get into the shoals but most are taking shelter in margins or near to margins both bank side or of the islands, good shoals in between the islands can be found.

        Bassetts

This was frozen on Tuesday but has since defrosted and done very well with Orfe to 3lb and Carp averaging 2 to 3lb being caught, water temperature has risen to 4.7 deg and fish moving slowly but in shoals, do not overfeed try just hook bait at first and search out the shoals.
