    Rutland Water
    Fish 837 (season 26,434) Returns 267 (4,913) Rod average 3.13(5.38)
Anglers worked hard for results this week with boat anglers faring the best. One or two good browns were caught including the best fish of the week a 5lb 11½oz Brown landed by Mark Rose; a 5lb 8oz specimen taken by Tom Davis; and a 4lb plus fish taken by Iain Barr. All of these were recorded in the Northern final of the AWAI fished on Monday 16 July.

The main area for boats is the main basin and to a lesser degree the middle of the North Arm (tower area). A variety of lures, large and small, general purpose nymphs, diawl bach, pheasant tail and hares ear are accounting for fish. Dries have also produced fish – again anything from foam daddies to bob’s bits.

    Competition news
Anglian Water Airflo International – Northern final 16 July
The two main areas fished in this match were long drifts in the main basin and drifts around the North Arm tower. It was hard work but some good sized fish were landed including the biggest of the week a 5lb 11½oz Brown landed by Mark Rose. Congratulations to Team Vision – all team members contributed to their victory. The top three teams have qualified to fish in the International Final at Rutland.
    1st Team Vision 13 fish for 35lb 8oz
    2nd Northern Drifters 18 fish for 35lb 2oz
    3rd The Renegades 15 fish for 34lb 0oz.

Tuesday night boat league week 11
The hot weather impacted this week’s match with all nine anglers fishing in the league recording blanks. The wind has consistently been in the North/north East and has finally moved to a light westerly bringing warm water into the main basin, slowing action on the night.

As water levels drop the numerous weed beds around the shoreline will be exposed.

Best methods: Bank – nymphs, fry patterns, dries.
Boat – as for bank but include various large/small lures on various sinking lines

    Best Rainbow: 3lb plus.

Best Brown: 5lb 11½oz taken by Mark Rose.

Best boat areas: The main basin, middle of North Arm (tower area).

Midweek boat winner: Ken Shaw of Kirby Moorside.

    Fish stocked: 2,000.

    Grafham Water
    Fish 242 Returns 80 Rod average 3.03
Grafham Water has been running hot and cold with the top layer of water falling victim to the hot weather and relentless sunshine of late. We have seen some days with only one or two fish being caught but these have been interspersed with bank anglers off the dam and boat anglers fishing the boils catching their limits.

As mentioned the dam has been the favoured spot of the bank anglers, as many places are now inaccessible due to the weedbanks. So opt for GRHE with a red holographic diawl bach on a washing line with your choice of boobie or FAB on the point.

For anglers venturing out on boats action has been found around the dam tower on fry patterns; on slower days smaller flies have tempted the fish but keep moving. Washing line tactics with diawl bachs and crunchers on the droppers or a fast glass with fry patterns near the dam or on the boils. Don’t be afraid to try hoppers and floating fry patterns. On these really tough days, it’s down to the ever faithful Di7 or Di8 with a black snake around the boils or Di8 in the middle with boobies.

Best fish: 4lb 2oz taken by Stephen Bruce.

Midweek boat winner: Don Bowyer of Bedford.

    Pitsford Water
    Fish 69 (season 4,953) Returns 30 (1,158) Rod average 2.3(4.2)
The continuing hot weather sees the fish still deep in the water so Di5, Di7 and sinking lines have been the line of choice again to get down to where the fish are; with this method some anglers are managing to net decent numbers.
The main bowl has been the favoured area this week using snake, boobies and minky patterns.

Mid Northants Trout Fishers Association is running a two week course “Catch your own trout” on consecutive Saturdays 22 and 29 September in conjunction with Northants Adult Learning/First for Leisure (booking via the organisation’s website).
