TF_lloydy1970Glad i don’t buy it if the rubbish i’ve heard is in it. Angling is too cheap and all canals should be stocked with carp. Aint there enough holes in the ground for You carp heads to fish without moving on to canals, surely there are enough 10 peggers on the 20 fishery per mile commercial scene without spoiling proper fishing.

AnonymousIts 22 miles to my nearest commercial. 60 miles to my nearest commercial thats run correctly and well established with good stocks of carp. On the other hand. I have 4 different canals within 10 miles of my home. There are a few hundred commercials around the country. Too many in some areas and almost none in other areas. We have thousands of miles of canals that are hardly ever used by anglers these days. Problem for me and many other anglers is that they are crap. So crap that you can walk for miles along any of these canals and never see another angler. A 20 peg canal match is a big canal match these days in my area. Thats if you can find a canal match. It would be interesting to see what would happen if a section of a canal in my area could be locked off to keep the stocks in. Then, stocked with carp. My feeling is that that section of canal would become very popular very quickly with both pleasure and match anglers.

TF_orexinaIt would become popular if you stocked it with decent silvers. Roach at 50 to the pound are a pain. Skimmers and some fine tench would improve catches and get more anglers on the bank. Being shoal fish you would need to stock with loads of skimmers to spread them out along a length of canal.
Restricking boats to between 2200 – 0730 would help as well ~clap

TF_lloydy1970My area Trueblue is very different to your’s that within 30 minutes there are miles of canal and lots of commies, the canal full of big fish(mainly tench and bream) where matches are won with up to 80lb is the least match fished canal in the area. If you landlock a canal so the fish dont move doesn’t this make it a pool.

TF_D.W.Angling is only as expensive as you make it for yourself. Nobody is forcing anybody to pay £1000’s for a pole, £750 for a box or £150 for a reel. Angling equipment presently is at the cheapest for the quality & functionality than it ever has been.
It sounds like most have it easy as you try finding a decent specimen carp water near Leicester that is not a commercial!

TF_baitchefParticipantpersonally I think commies have spoilt us and we have only got ourselves to blame if there is a demise in rivers and canals, because we don’t fish them any more. I live in deepest south west and whilst i appreciate the commies, there are only big reservoirs to fish. I would give my left arm to be able top pop down to a local stretch of canal or river and coarse fish. I am originally from Berkshire and I always used to fish stretches of the rivers and canals in that area and some of my favourite catches came from them.

TF_shep2suppose the commie debate rolls on i have recently took over the match secretarys position in our little club + traditionally we book 10 matches a year 5 on rivers/canals 5 on stillwaters/commies but in recent years the poor turnouts/lack of interest on the river/canal matches have forced us to vote out our 20yr old 5+5 rule we have had turnouts as low as 6-7 anglers wheras the commies usually 16-18 suppose were typical of a lot of clubs up + down the counry unfortunately carp really do=bums on seats like it or not ~naughty
