TF_steve1Whats do you think is the best elastic for skimmers?
The lake I fish is approx 4ft deep with fish ranging from 10oz to 4lb.
At the moment I use preston double 5 but do you reckon maybe a pink hydro through a puller would be better? -

TF_mart16i would have thought white hydro would be ok.
maybe blue for the smaller stuff but white will handle a wider variation of fish size. -

TF_craigoare the fish up to 4lb bream also? – if so, I would go something like double 4, 4lb bream arent gonna give you too much of a run around

TF_FISHER-PRICEBeen using double 5 preston slip for skimmers/bream to 4lb at barston lately and it’s bob on! Although having spoken to carpcruncher(Lee) after yesterdays match about his approach I’m feeling rather under-gunned and gay now to be honest, but I reckon he can fill you in on his manly unorthodox approach! lol!

TF_shep2been using the new(ish)middymicro shock core 1-5 doubled up quote from middy=perfectly balanced cushion action for silverfish developed over a two year period special mix of lattices made from natural liquid latex extruded and cured ~hand what they forgot to add is that it rots like youve never seen i did 9 topkits with it used them once + next time out they were snapping like cotton another angler on the bank had the same problem with it too~naughty previous to swapping ive used the original green with no problems but the new stuff does stretch just that bit further so i thought it would be better and at 7.99 thought it would be petty durable but sadly its not~sick ps the elastic had not been subjected to sunlight~naughty anybody else fell for it~think

TF_Waveney OneIf there are a lot more 2 1/2lb fish or less than 4lbers then I would use Middy High-Viz 4 to 6. Brilliant stuff.

TF_budnuddParticipantIn that depth I’d say single 6 would be cock on. If your into double laccy then double 4 or 5 so your on the right track.
I guess the real question is, why are you contemplating changing from double 5? Is it too harsh or are the better fish giving you the run around??

Most of my skimmer fishing is on a canal, with fish averaging 12oz to 1lb but with the chance of hitting the odd fish up to 4lbs.
I’ve been using doubled Middy 1-5 for a few years now and reckon it is better than anything else I’ve used.
I do agree that it does not last as long as some elastics but that is probably a small price to pay. I reckon it lasts about 4-6 months – being used twice a week.
Even single 1-5 is good for skimmers but it does take a bit longer to land any bonus proper bream you may hook. I’ve landed carp up to 5lbs and pike up to 7lbs on the doubled 1-5.
I have tried a few very light hollows which are OK but I do find that when you have netted a smaller stamp of fish, they get pulled up in the landing net as the elastic retracts in to the pole.

SteveSif there are no bonus carp or tench to be had then a single slip 6 thru the 2 & 3 would be my first choice, if carp and tench are likely then double slip 5 on a pulla or a light hollo such as a 9h should do the trick.

TF_baitchefParticipantI used to use drennan red bungee. Fact is once they come to the surface its game over and then you just skim them to a net.
