TF_stevie bHorbury canal not too bad. You will need a Wakefield AC book though.
Flanshaw dam a very easy venue too. Again you will need a Wakefield book.If you can get to Huddersfield Lindley pond is a very good venue. Day ticket available from post office at the bottom of the road.
Sally Walshes dam at Hemsworth not a bad venue either. You should catch a few from the dam wall.

Yeah Birkwood is just down the road from where i live in Normy, whenever i have been i have always gone on big lake and targetted carp though.
Might go there seen as its a 5minute drive, any tips?
I have a wakey book too, never been to flanshaw, i cant be bothered to get a gate key haha

I dont like newmillerdam, too many dog walkers, joggers, cyclists and people like the bloke i had last time, who moaned on abour modern monofil. 25 minutes he sat down next to me, and refused to take the hint i wanted him to go away.
I would one day like to go back, i have since walked round myself and i think the boathouse area would be good, as its a wider track so people are less likely to walk right behind you or come over and pester you. When i was there there was a match on, and the lads were all playing fish, there were some quality skimmers coming out all over.

TF_RhinoLarge lake at Birkwood is excellent.
Hemsworth Water Park used to be good though not being for a while (bit exposed to dog walkers etc as well).
Calder around Wakefield/ Horbury fishing well.

Anonymousif you enjoy river fishing you wont go far wrong on the river don at Denaby.have caught loads of roach there these last three weeks.park behind your peg and the pegs are ok to get in.took my pal today for a session and he had 8-9lb on the topper.not bad for a first ever river session(he,s a commercial addict).

Cheers Kev, I was gonna just go to newmillerdam seen as i have a wakey book and there are a few good reports. But i might give hoyle mill a go instead, hopefully a few less dog walkers etc.
Any tips? Pegs etc? I had prepared today to for a feeder chuck with maggots but i can scratch something up last minute im sure.
If you feel any better tomorrow and your not doing anything give me a ring and you can give me some expert tuition. 07808731611.

Good info cheers mate.
It was the article about roach fishing at speci venues, they then listed 5 venues across the country to try, 3 lakes was one of them and was the closest to me.
Does anyone know anything about non go bye in leeds? Heard that is supposed to be a good roach/skimmer venue?

maggot_drownerBig lake at Birkwood is stuffed full of silvers, I took my 6y/o daughter there last year and she had one a bung, until the pesky Carp moved in and spoilt if for her!
If you fancy a river the Aire at Beal is very good this time of year.
