I know this is probably sacrilege, even the mere thought of a bivvy, let alone mentioning the b word on here. But I was wondering if anybody on here uses one and if so, whether you would be brave enough to offer any recommendations. 😀
I’m not interested in anything top of the range, just a day shelter really with the possibility of the odd night in summer.

I had several bivvy systems over the years, including some top end ones.

More often than not I ended up taking my JRC STI brolly. Sort of an open fronted pram hood design, very sturdy, with plenty of room.

As an optional extra you can get an over-wrap which turns the whole thing into closed fronted bivvy.

Both together won’t break the bank, and are imo better than some systems costing more than twice as much.

I’ve done a bit of research and the jrc one seems very popular.

I use an oval brolly from Daiwa – I thinks it’s a Mission brolly and was pretty cheap (£60 odd) but it has lasted me a few years now. Easy to put up quickly, plus I like the open front. There’s plenty enough room for a bedchair and your tackle underneath. There is an overwrap for it but for odd summer overnighters you don’t need that!

I was thinking about something similar, but to be honest the wind can be unbearable and i was concerned it wouldn’t be strong enough. Whereas at least with a bivvy everything is nailed down.

Back to the wind and they’re strong – had mine up in a few hoolies! Normally I only have it up on the two storm poles / banksticks, but if it’s rough I’ll use all four, plus guy ropes and peg the back down. It has the storm caps with it so you don’t need to buy them, and mine also came with two 4ft spiral point banksticks that I use in the middle points if it’s windy, else I use two shorter spiral point sticks on the sides. If anything, with four banksticks / storm poles well in the ground holding it, it’s more nailed down than a bivvy with just pegs!

Forgot to add, mine came with a groundsheet also, but it’s removable and mine has never been used!
