The winners of the British Carp Angling Championships 2016 will gain an England cap following an agreement between manager Rob Hughes, and the owners of the BCAC, “The Barlow Family”.
“I have for a long time thought that the British Champions should form a part of the England squad, but in the past, for various reasons, that has not been possible. With the new management and structure of the BCAC it now is and I look forward to working more closely with them and the BCAC using it and welcoming new members to our squad”
A number of British Champs have represented England in the past, and the BCAC has been used as an unofficial feeder. This new agreement formalises links between the two major competition carp organisations, and is the start of a series of new initiatives brought in by Hughes to build and strengthen the squad following their magnificent victory in Spain last year.
David Barlow added “We are proud and excited to be working in partnership with Team England to offer this amazing opportunity to our winning pair. In sport it is vital that all levels of the sport work together to develop progression which will always lead to the strongest possible national team.”.
The BCAC tournament season commences this weekend and more details about how to enter can be found at http://www.britishcarpchamps.co.uk
