Hello all, I have a match at earlswood lakes, Engine House lake in a few weeks. Never fished the place before so would be very greatful for any information regarding tactics, baits, and best areas. Also, I have been told that the carp average 8-10lb…is this true. If so, need to beef up my gear…lol
Thanks in advance for any help

Moorey, try straight lead pinging 8mm pellets over regular. Hair rig pellet or 12mm boilies. You don’t need to go far out as I’d be looking to try the wag at some point. Groundbait method seem to attrach the bream.
Fish average 10 lbs (going upto 15 the day I was there)I fished a peg in the high 20’s

Cheers bigfella. Just spoke to a mate who said a similar thing. He said start off on pellet wag, feeding regular, then go over same spot with straight lead, so there must be something true there. I was going to opt for a method approach but if you say bream are a problem that might be a plan B approach.
If the fish run that big is there a limit to number of fish per net, of a maximum weight per net……dont wanna get disqualified if I break the lake record…….LMAO…….only kidding.

Start off on the method long firing 11 mls over the wag line then have a look at it with the wag and straight lead regularly. Use 11mls on a hair or band on straight lead and pellet wag. Do you know what pegs you have?

Not got a clue on the peg numbers for the match, only that its a 50 pegger.
Myself and 3 mates are gonna have a practice one day next week so will let you know how we get on. Thanks for the tips

Have a read of carpmagics blog on the shimano site, from the british waterways matches 2009 & 2010, loads of info and tackle breakdown, and also shows how the fishing can vary dramatically there.

Coxy’s info will be very upto date, as the lads we fish with, are venue regulars, and very hard to beat there.

Also never rule out the method long to the islands, if you have one infront of you.

Moorey of Kingfisher. I wonder?? HMMMMMMM.

If so I would take the secret paste mix.

C.S.H…..yeah, I’ve thought about using the paste but hair rigging it then casting 30 yards might be tricky…..lol
And if your who I think you are, your the luckiest bloke at the draw bag…..EVER

Fished it yesterday for the first time, hard going but I had 8 fish for almost 92lb!!!!……and lost 11.
Cant believe the size of some of the carp, had 2 out over 16lb each. My mate had 15 fish for well over 150lb.
Advice about groundbait feeder was spot on, only caught bream on it, my mate using a pellet feeder caught steady.
All my fish came to pellet waggler, but I think I need a re-think on the type of waggler, I’m sure it was to heavy and making to much of a splash…if thats possible!!

I use the garbolino 10-12gram loaded wagglers or if you have
fished boddington then the waggs the baliff sells , i fish wag with bomb underneath or go out further with
The method if its slow . I only put 10 fish in a net , couple of weeks ago i had 3 fish in 1 net for 44lb
So yes they are big fish
                          Good luck
