Just popped onto the Match Fishing magazine website and saw there was a poll for ‘your favourite match species’.
Mine is actually bream, so I voted as such.
I love fishing for skimmers and bream on the pole, slider and on the tip and my personal view is that they are far more challenging than say, carp.
I fully expected however carp to be completely dominating the poll – would not have been surprised to find carp getting over 70% of the votes at all.
I WAS however surprised to see that the majority of people who have voted so far agree with me! Over 30% at the time of writing.
In fact carp are not even in second place.
I know they are not as hardy or reliable in terms of feeding as carp. But it must make a few fishery owners take notice if the result is confirmed at the end?? Also I hope the Angling Trust are reading.

That’s a shallow venue thing in my experience. Also probably because we are fishing soft carp elastics rather than fours and fives….

The problem is geeps everyone votes for thier favourite species mine is big roach I don’t think anything comes close, however I’m not blinkered as you fish for what you can get locally, however when most anglers are asked would they prefer to fish a silver lake in a match or a carp lake, they might say silver but when it comes to summer they opt for carp everytime, lots of fisheries have had silver only lakes and can’t get bookings on them so they change them to carp lakes, or mixed lakes with carp and silvers, it’s a question of getting bums on seats or pegs to be precise.

have to agree with fred couple of fisheries near us tried silverfish pools everybody said it was a good idea but sugest club match there and everyone says no we will have better weights on the carp pool so said silver pools get carp and therefore anglers

                  I just find that bizarre.
In the first few years after carp pools launched, yes, there was a certain draw in the chance of 100lb.
But now surely everyone knows 10lb of silvers is as good as, if not better than, 100lb of carp?

Geeps the other reason is the lack of standard in angling these days an average or below par club angler can sit on the right peg on a carp pool and have a very good day if he’s lucky he might even win the match, put him on silvers and he even less likely to produce, time these days is very important, anglers go to the expense of paying day tickets pools brekky etc they expect to see a very good return on there investment and that means if they can’t win they feel at least by putting 30lb on the scales (even if the match is won with 200lb plus) that they have had a reasonable day, put them in a silvers match which is won with 30lb and they catch 2lb it’s a craphole! pardon the pun

There are exceptions to the rule take Lake John in waltham abbey match weights comprise of mainly skimmers and the odd carp or three, not everyone catches a carp, however you could hook into a thirty pounder, so even if they blow out they may have hooked and lost a monster, silvers with an added boost( big carp) lol
