TF_Paul EdwardsHow does this pole compare to a speccy power? A colleague is looking to upgrade but was looking at a Daiwa G8, I may be interested in the Tricast and he can have my Speccy.
Honest comments required please. -

TF_bagging machineParticipantI looked at a Tri-cast Excellence when they first came out in 2002 at Oakleys in Sheffield, Dave put the pole up at the full 16.2m. I held the 16m section while he held the tip he asked me to lift and then lift more suddenly it broke near the joint on the butt section, he put it down to the pole not being pushed together tightly? The pole felt very stiff and light weighing only 935g at 14m but rated to a 14 elastic. Despite the pole breaking I still went ahead and bought one. After several weeks I did take it back to the shop because I felt the 16m section only went into the 14m section by approx 30-40mm which I felt was not enough. The pole was sent back to Tri-cast and when I got it back the Overlap was approx 75mm Job sorted? Well Yes and No. I still have the pole but have broken the 16m, 14.5m & 13m butt sections these have since been wrapped full length by Scott @ Esselle pole repairs, its now bullet proof but too heavy, I have not had any problems with any other sections breaking. Looking back I think Tri-cast should have recalled all the Excellence poles? Despite the problems I have had I saw a second hand one for sale at 17.9m with a good spares package for £350 so I bought it, altough the butt sections have some paint missing they are far more solid than my original Excellence. Tri-cast must have re-worked them?
I have had Red hydro in the pole but to be honnest i’ve taken it out and feel much happier with purple I would not use the pole for large carp near snags or at Drayton but have had plenty of 12-15lb carp in open water with weights to 210lb in 4 hours
I looked at all the the Flagship poles in Bobco Leeds about eight months ago, I picked up the Tri-cast Finnesse at length and to be quite honnest it felt heavier and less stiff than my Excellence even though it had no elastic in it, the best on the rack IMO was the Garbolino super G10.
My mate has a Garbolino 995 and in comparison at 16m the Excellence is lighter and just a touch stiffer so where people get the impression ALL Tri-cast poles are heavy and floppy from I dont know?
Another mate has a tourney pro, i had hold of it a couple of weeks ago and i did admit to him that it was slightly stiffer than my excellence but his pole has had very little use and long number 4’s are the achillies heel af the pro, i would say the excellence is stronger than a pro but you have to remember the excellence was brought out to compete with the spectron competition 7 years ago.
I have not held the new Tri-cast Aristocrat but if I was on the market for a new pole it would be either the Aristocrat or G10. Probably the Aristocrat because its British and i would still be able to get spares in 10 years time. -

TF_Paul EdwardsThanks Bagger, I used to own a Triaxial and it was the strongest pole I have ever owned, but have slowly upgraded and now own Speccy. As most of my fishing is commercials I am reasonably happy with the Speccy but always on the look for a top end pole for good used price(can’t justify silly new prices). It sounds like I would not be improving on performance by swapping, so I’ll keep looking and keep my pennies in my pocket this time.

TF_wightanglerI have Tri-cast excellence & love it,
however , the new aristocrat is, imo, far-far superior(my mate has one) and is ahead & shoulders of all current top end poles(just shading TP on weight and balance-seems much ‘lighter’,and would rate TP as better pole than excellence-but only just!(Shipping back with spiral wrap in wet is a pain-but then it’s a 2005 pole and very, very underated.
and would also rate the FAPS 10,000 as on a par tho’ heavier).
Buy tri-cast-British made & owned.
also spare guranteed for 25 YEARS!interested in 17m ext. and extra no. 4’s,top kits,
for excellence if want to split?
