It’s not unheard of for clubs to be made up purely for the benefit of entering the competition.

From the research I did last year it appeared the majority of people that I spoke to wanted the opportunity to win cash as well as tackle. Thats why we’ve given entrants the chance to do so by having entry money up front and then pools on the day of the qualifier. I Iost count of the number of anglers who asked, ‘how much are the pools’ last year.
The format has been the same for the past four years and changing it like we have means more for the winners and judging by entries in the first week there will be a lot of people entering again.
If we feel someone is more an open angler than club he or she wont be allowed to fish. However, there are now many club anglers who compete in opens as well these days so common sense needs to prevail.
Closing date is Feb 25th by the way.

So as a member of Acton club does this mean I have the right to fish the match ?

Tell you what tho I really enjoyed the day . Cheers match fishing.

The extra money is fine, as long as it doe not put off the club anglers who go for the banter with outside chance of qualifying as this is always enjoyable day, I think the standard of angler will def go up in this match now as you gonna have to believe you got good chance of qualifying if paying £40 …now wheres my cheque book ~clap

Dont agree with extra pools as this will only bring out the anglers who are in it for the DOLLAR and not the actual spirit of the event…..

£20 ALL IN and cash for the winner and placed anglers,as well winning £40 per section is quite adequate IMHO…

By the time some have travelled a few miles bought bait and paid pools and there entry fee your looking at £80+ ~naughty …

I love trying to qualify for this event and hope this increase does`nt spoil it for the majority..

cant see nothing wrong with fishing for prize money as well as prizes but think the anglers need to be vetted or something i fished this when it first started and would say 80% + was club anglers now you seem to see the same faces every year. i know of people even making up a club to fish in the qualifiers .many club anglers have fished all season to be club champion to qualify
for this yet you have some anglers saying they fish for a club that dont exist just to fish for the prize money and prizes some check needs to be done

My twopennorth – I agree with kev. It’s a club angler event, most club anglers fish for the craic not the money. This will attract more open anglers and the spirit of the event will be lost.
Please change it back next year Dave.
