Possible impending dumb question warning….

Couple of mentions recently of smuts and hardbacks in the same breath.

What’s the routine for baiting up with a hardback then? Shell-on/legs-off? Cut in half? Elastic?

remove front claws,thread hook through two leg sockets and tie on with elastic,or alternatively(if you are not casting very far)wrap loads of elastic around body of crab and simply insert hook under elastic…works best with live crab as it allows crab to wander around at will…rotten bottom rig highly recommended

elastic is essentilal when casting as they can slip off quite easilly. I tend to whip the legs together to stop them from burrying themselves
