I went to change the elastic last night in a couple of top kits and I had 2 new spools – Sensas No.5 (0.9mm diameter) and a Preston Latex No.4 (0.85mm diameter). Both pure white latex.

I compared the 2 and the No.5 Sensas looked thinner and softer than the preston No.4. First time buying the Preston and to be honest I might just stick to the Sensas or a few others. I was really looking the Preston in No.3 but the lowest they produce is No.4…?

Are there any other pure latex elastics that anyone recommends in the No1 – No8 sizes?

Not fussed on the Preston Coloured Slip, and i’ve never had many problems witht the Vespe Fluro range…

I can remember using that stuff maybe 8+ years ago, and in the same colours too! Nothing wrong with it but I think pure latex has it’s advantages now.

I’ve been using the preston number 5 latex for a couple of years in a match top 3 with the number 1 section removed and it’s been superb for silvers of all sizes.
I had a problem when I changed my pole – the same elastic just didn’t work as well in the new top kits, I tried maver and garbolino latex and they were even worse.
I’ve finally settled on original preston number 5 slip which is spot on – It just shows how something that one person raves about might be useless for another.

Personally i would stick to the Sensas.
I use it from the number 2 through to the number 8 for all my silvers fishing on canals and rivers~clap

Green and purple Middy Hi Viz £2.89 here aswell. What works for some anglers doesnt always work for others but loads of top anglers have switched back to the tried and trusted Middy Hi Viz ….. pure latex deffo rots after a few weeks of constant use. The Middy is great for bagging for silvers and the green 3-4s well worth a go doubled up for anything from 2 oz roach to skimmers and f1s.I have recently returned from a silverfish festival at Stafford Moor and had weights of skimmers , roach , tench and crucians to 45lb using single Middy Hi Viz purple 4-6s , if i didnt rate it i wouldnt post about it …simples !
