REPORT
Members of both LEVAS and Soldiers & Sailors Angling Club fished at the Blake Hall Fishery at Cheadle (near Stoke) in a joint match. This was for the Alan Fletcher Memorial Trophy and also Match 14 for the LEVAS 2017 Individual Championship.
The bad weather that was forecast remained absent (excepting a little light drizzle) until near the end of the match, when the rain commenced and set in for the evening.
The anglers were well spaced around the large “Penninsular” lake, but, in spite of everyone having spare pegs on either side, the lake generally failed to fish as well as anticipated for most of the attendees.
The performance of the day was by the in-form Steve Hoult, who fished a superb match from peg 44 to put an impressive 75-14 on the scales for a clear win. Fishing pole at 13m, Steve was pestered by small bream at first, but by switching to 8ml hard pellets both as feed and on the hook, Steve managed to interest the big carp and added the odd fish to the end of the match.
On end peg 24, with the wind off his back, venue expert Neil Stevenson fished his favourite bomb and pellet to accumulate an even 50-00 of carp for second place, with Keith White (the other venue expert) on peg 29 fishing similarly for his 44-06 to take third place.
Nigel Brailsford (peg 59) switched from open water to a long cast close to the peninsular with method feeder and maggot bait to find the fish, and an excellent final hour lifted his weight to 40-06 for fourth place, which regained him the Championship lead, with Dave Cotterill (peg 48) taking fifth place with 35-10, and John Adamson (peg 61) who also cast close to the peninsular, in sixth with 32-06 which lifted him two places in the Championship into second spot.
The next match is at Rycroft Fishery on the Moat Lake on 8 October, followed by a return to Rycroft on 15 October, on the Donno Lake.
