REPORT
The fourth LEVAS Championship match of the year was fished over both the Canal Lakes at Rycroft Fishery, and the numbers of “silver fish” (i.e. not carp) played a significant part in the overall results.
Match Secretary Dave Kent had around 35-00 of tench and skimmers to add to his 40-00 of carp giving him a winning total of 75-12. Fishing peg 8 on the Old Canal, Dave started on corn in the margins and caught “silvers” steadily. A switch to meat at 3m produced two good carp plus more skimmers, then a further switch to catmeat on the 3m line produced five decent carp to finish.
On the New Canal (peg 2) Keith White took second place with 72-02, which included an incredible 52-00 of “Silvers” – mainly ide and tench, with Rob Pembridge filling third place with 60-10 from Old Canal peg 13 to move into second place in the Championship on 64 points within 5 points of the leader Nigel Brailsford who has 69 points.
Les Smedley’s fourth placed 52-10 from Old Canal peg 17 moved him up to third place in the Championship on 57 points, with Dave Kent in fourth on 49 points with Dave Cotterill (who did not fish) dropping to fifth with 47 points.
Match 5 (for the H Mountney Cup) is at Blake Hall on Capricious Lake on Sunday 1 July 2018.
