REPORT
The LEVAS 2017 Championship Match 9, also for the Jean Adams Memorial Trophy, was fished on the Main Lake at Hacketts Lakes near Nottingham on pegs 31 to 57. Although the weather promised rain showers it thankfully remained dry throughout the match, although the wind switched several times during the day, which was mainly cloudy with some sunny periods.
It proved a match of two halves – carp dominated with the top four weights all coming from the low numbers (31-37), while at the other end some anglers struggled for bites.
Top on the day was Paul Marriott (peg 37), a clear winner with 94-10 of pig carp. Paul caught his fish on a pellet waggler. In contrast, second placed Nigel Brailsford (peg 35) caught his fish on a method feeder cast around 70 yards tight to the reedbed on the opposite side of the bay. Nigel included several bream, as well as carp, in his catch.
Third and fourth anglers both fished pellet waggler, Steve Hoult (peg 31) putting 71-04 on the scales beating Dave Cotterill’s 60-13 catch.
Paul Skinner (peg 44) weighed in 59-02 for fifth place, a mixture of carp and bream all taken on the method feeder fished short, with Brian Leafe’s 51-13 carp catch falling to pole fished corn on peg 41.
Les Smedley managed to retain his Championship lead and has 122 points, although Nigel Brailsford lurks close behind him on 121. John Adamson and Rob Pembridge share third place on 117 each, Paul Marriott on 114 and Steve Hoult on 110 in fifth and sixth places.
Next match (30 July) is the LEVAS Annual Outing Match, which will be held on Blythe Big Pool, when the day will include a pre-match breakfast and a post-match meal. Book a place with Dave Kent ASAP so he may confirm the food orders.
