        REPORT
Following a week of unsettled and often damp weather, anglers were pleased to see pleasant sunny conditions when they arrived at Beechwood Park for Championship Match Six, also for the Tapper’s Shield. Another excellent attendance (the match was a joint affair with Soldiers & Sailors Angling Club) meant that most of the pegs on the Kingfisher Pool were used, the few spare pegs enabling anglers around the corners and ends to have a little more space.
Once again, the bulk (filling five of the top six places) of the decent weights came from the left (East) side of the lake between pegs 11 and 20, although anglers along the other bank all had fish many struggled for bites.
Winner of the match was Steve Warrener with a magnificent weight on the day of 73-04 from peg 19. This was Steve’s best ever match weight and, I believe, his first win, so it is great to see him lift the Tappers’ Shield. Steve caught the bulk of his carp catch on a “banjo” feeder with a banded 4ml pellet on the hook, although he added his biggest fish, a carp of around 7-00, from the margin on pole 30 minutes from time.
Last week’s winner John Adamson had the only decent weight from the opposite side of the lake, taking 61-04 from peg 34. John started on pole and paste for a few “stockies”(small carp), then switched to method feeder with soft 6ml pellet to catch a bigger sample. By continually alternating after each swim went quiet he kept adding carp to his net for second place.
Paul Richardson (third the previous week) continued his golden form by again filling third place with 52-02 from peg 20, with Bill Peach (47-04 from peg 17), Les Smedley (45-14 from peg 15) and Steve Hoult (42-08 from peg 11) filling the other top places.
After 6 matches the Championship leaders are: Nigel Brailsford, who had another steady display on 95 points, John Adamson 84, Les Smedley 80, Steve Hoult 74 and Rob Pembridge 70.
Next match is at Makins (Phase Two) over Crater, Snake, Reptiles and Paddock on Sunday 9 July.
