I am thinking of buying either of these poles after testing in the shop and being very impressed. However i know a waggle in the shop is no substitute for actually fishing with it on the bank day in day out. I would be really gratefully if anyone has one of these poles and can get back to me , letting me know the pros and cons. At the price they are selling at this would have to be a pole that I would have to keep for a good few years. I fish mainly commercials which do hold the odd lump or fishing long into margins for fish up to double figures. Thanks

i would never consider a maver pole mate. in my experience there dont like being knocked about due to them being very britle. expensive for spares. and there usualy discontinued after a year or 2 max. and then price of spares go up even more. plus points are male joints last for ages but females ware instead. daiwa garbolino and tri-cast make the best poles in my opinion.

I used a Maver 371 for 5 years purely for carping great pole for the money, never broke it BUT the joints wore out and had to have a couple wrapped.

              Have had a N47, 371, 401 and 501 and me still happy.

Still using 371 sections on my 501.

I have used them in real proper weather on proper lakes.

Spares arent that expensive and only broke sections being a lummox.

Hi i have got a 66 and love it the only advice is get the shallow power tops u wouldn’t belive the difference they make the delux power tops u get are to long not had any proper lumps on it or fished near snags as for spares all the comp range fits

I have to say do it! I changed from a weedy G796 to an Elite 77 18 months ago and have never looked back. My catch rate has improved greatly due to be able to hold the light, but strong, pole for longer with little wobbling allowing a shorter tighter line to the float. I have so much more confidence in its ability it has transformed my fishing. BTW I’m over 60 and have some back problems.

I had a Maver 201 and never had a problem so upgraded and bought a 501, shipping out as normal with a kinder pot on and the number 6 section just folded without warning about a foot from the joint – the only time I have ever had a pole break on me in 30 years.

To say it has dented my confidence in all things Maver is a massive understatement, whilst they did replace the section on the guarantee its a different colour to the pole and sticks out like a sore thumb so dont think I would be able to sell it if I tried, there is no way of actually telling if its a 501 section they replaced it with.

I dont think I will be buying another Maver pole to be honest.
